I don't know if there may be any rules, possibly in your dept, against posting pictures, but I would be interested in seeing pictures of you (or not) standing near your police car. I am highly interested in law enforcement, and some of my teenaged excitement in LE is seeing police cars. It's kind of a fetish.
No google images pics either. I just want real LEOs, or even security officers to post pictures of the vehicle they use in every day use. Motorcycles, Crown Vics, Impalas, etc, I would be highly interested in seeing what your department uses.
My local PD uses Impalas. I've ridden in one once (to an explorer hosted Pacers game) and it drove smoothly, but I've heard the car kinda sucks. But it seems to be taking on the Crown Victoria, and the Charger is slowly becoming popular.
Plus, are the marked Impalas with the lightbar any different than the one's made to look like a normal car? One of my explorer advisors drives a dark blue Impala, the other rides in a white one with a lightbar on the top. Just wondering.
Thanks. Danke. Gracias.
Well, since you asked for Security Officers as well, I'll nibble. Im not an LEO, I am Security, but I don't have a car... but here is the Explorer car I use... (A snapshot I took myself so I am not in it.)

Ahh, thanks for the link. I must have been too lazy to look or I missed it. Thanks!
Lacey, is that for police explorers? So, of course if you have a d/l, you can eventually drive a cop car? Hmm.
Drum,
Yes, that car is for the police explorers. If you have a drivers license, you get to drive that car. It is a rare occurance you drive a normal marked unit, especially if this car is available for use.

That's cool. I didn't think they'd give explorers a police car.... What do you guys use it for?
I'm "in training" to be an explorer, and the only things we do are security at festivals and parades. I would be lucky to use the department golf cart with the strobes.

So what's the point of even having a lightbar? Is it just for training scenarios? Or can it be used at a community event where you need to block off a certain area, and your advisor told you to?
Confusing. I shouldn't even be worrying about it, but I am just wondering.
Ahh, nice APC. My department isn't really high risk, the ERT just has an old delivery type truck with a fence looking ram on the front. I've never seen it out of the headquarter's parking lot, though.
The Paddy Wagon is old too. We once took a field trip to the dispatch center, which oddly, is in the middle of some neighborhood. That thing STUNK.

The lightbar is used for pretty much those very reasons. During training it is used the same way a red/blue one would be. They use it for traffic control, visibility, etc... No, it is not for running lights and sirens or stopping a vehicle.

If it was SPD, I think they still have that van. I remember going to the Apple Cup a couple years back and an SPD Explorer backed over a parked car w/ it... got out and looked, then drove away.. we all stood there like, "Did he just commit a hit and run?!" :D Our advisor (Coincidentally he started his LE career in Seattle) talked to him, but I dont know what actions were taken.

Yep, SPD. That explorer sure is bright. They should never let someone with little or no experience driving a van of that size behind the wheel  They were talking about painting it, black/white, but looks like that didn't happen. Found this pic on wleea.org.

Hey Norm, did you go to Clayton for acadmey training? I will take pics of our chargers that we use for Patrol & maybe some H.E.A.T cars.
He's a car we had last year for the 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne. It's a GM Holden Monaro, sold in the US as a Pontiac GTO

Yeah but that Holden Model looks pretty slick and its got the same power plant. To be honest though, I'm not a huge fan of the graphics but the car looks excellent.
Last decade we had the last Ford 5.4-litre V8 XR8s used by us.
The XR8 delivered 290kW (390 HP) & 520Nm from the 'Boss' DOHC 5.4-litre V8

With me I just don't want people to know where I work. A little anonymity is a good thing. The department wouldn't care, there's already pics of our cars out there that "wackers" take.
I was going to do what Chewy did but that would kind of defeat the purpose IMO. The decals and such are what make the car.

The graphics definitely make the car unique. I wonder if they take suggestions from the LEO's when they design them? Understandable you wouldn't want to advertise, there are quite a few types of jobs that people would rather be anonymous in.

Some places do. My experience has been it's more of what the Chief wants. I'm not a huge fan of my one's department's scheme but it could be worse I guess, and it sure beats walking.
I don't think you would have so many "white" paint schemes if line officers had their way...

Well Karla, having regard that's there's only a few active Aussies on this site and there's 11,000 coppers in my dept, unless I post my call sign I doubt anyone could identify me. I know that in the verified section the blokes don't have that much of an issue as to identifying themselves, just here in the public forums, which is quite judicious.
I know our Metro Ambulance Service has banned their staff from posting pics anywhere, including facebook, its a political thing.
Going by some of the cars I've seen in the US, the D.A.R.E. ones seem to have the greatest freedom and perhaps budget, those decals can be quite expensive. I wonder if vinyl wrap would be cheaper?
As for the white cars, our dept have had that since year dot, just the marked Highway Patrol cars are random off the line colours and that's only in the past few years, the last white one retired a few months back.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c371/Kazz100/LEO/Collage1.jpg
I love the look of your black'n'whites, to me its just more tradional, something from childhood from watching TV shows like Adam 12.

This was the last S.M.A.R.T. decal Highway Patrol car, 2007 GM-Holden SS (VE) 270 kW / 362 hp 6.0 litre V8, there was 10 0f them, we had 2, apparently the decals cost $3000. All highway patrol cars are now coloured.

The D.A.R.E. cars are pretty creative, much showier than the general LEO cars around here. As for the vinyl, I don't know if they are cheaper but I would think they would be more cost effective in the long run. They don't damage the paint and can be put on in a couple of hours (or a day on larger vehicles) Then when a new Chief comes along if he/she wants a change, just peel it off and put on a new one! You guys have some nice graphics on your cars. Is the checkerboard pattern a common theme/symbol with them all?
Yep, the checkerboard is on everything, our caps, our reflective/high vis vests, cars, police stations in all the States.
Curious.....would you guys get in trouble with your respective departments for posting pictures of your cars? Or do you not want everyone to know what department you work for?

and it's not so much that I'll get in trouble for just posting picture of the car but you just have to be careful posting anything on the internet nowadays. There's been more than a few people in trouble or fired or having issues in court cases because of things they said on the internet in web forums... including members from RPnet. And, as I recall, some of the issues that our friend had were even comments in the restricted LEO only forum. The first thing agencies or attorney’s do today when they investigate or want to discredit people are to do searches of the internet to see what kind of things that person has said on forums or chat rooms. You really have to be careful what you say because once you hit 'enter' it's out there forever, even if you go back and delete it.

believe it or not, I have one of those for my unit. I've got 2 Expeditions, a minivan (mainly used for Simunition scenarios) a Taurus X (I hated it at first... I mean really? a station wagon? but then found out the all wheel drive is very nice in the winter :) ) and an unmarked cargo van. I keep telling the bosses "Look, it's Firearms and TACTICAL Training Division... I should only have cool looking Chargers and SUV's" but they don't go for it. Nothing like rolling up to a training day with my guys and a local PD SRT unit with us in a cargo van, station wagon and Explorer!!! :)
