Anyone use this? http://www.freelinc.com/index.php?p_content=product&p_prd_pk=4
I just seen an advertisement for it. If it works it seems like a great product.
Unfortunately they don't make one for my radio yet.

Never seen it, man. It looks nice, though.

On a side note, rumor has it that Blue Tooth may be in our future. I can't wait. :)

What would be nice is if the bluetooth could be set up so that while in or near a car , it would work off of an external mobil antenna. When out of range of the car , it would revert to the stock antenna.

Our radios are supported, but it's not cool enough for $299.99. Plus there might be a concern with leaking crypto.

We got a couple for testing.

When the batteries were charged they worked OK, about the same as our regular should mics. But, when the batteries started to get low they were horrible. They also had a little more trouble transmitting in some areas, like inside our mall and hospital.

I hope it has one Hell of a clip. If that thing flies off the lapel in a fight, there goes $300.

I did a test of the mic's. For a real wold application they were not bad. For 299.00 the Price is steep...The test models we have are now offered to us at 60 to 70 % off the retail price. I think in a special event they work great, i.e. Bike patrol, and or something similar. The technology used is top notch. Not your average blue tooth capabilities. Our rep stated the patrol model is doing ok in sales..but the ERT-HRT model is flying off the shelves with a waiting list in place. All in all not bad. I’m glad we got to test them out. I probably would not spend 3 bills on the mic and adapter, but I will be buying the one I used at 60 to 70 % off.

It does....they only way its coming off is if you lapel goes with it. They also come with a type of safety strap. Kind of what a beeper would come with.

Might be a bit off topic but I was just curious as to the benifit of using the shoulder mic. NYPD does not issue them and almost no cop uses one here. Just wanted to see if it is something that I should look into or not.

I have a shoulder mic and LOVE it. I dont have to get my HT1000 out of its holster to use it. I can just key the mic at my lapel, I can also hear it better than a radio on my belt.

The mic is actually a mic and speaker, so having it much closer to your ear is easier to hear than when on your belt. If ambient noises are loud, or if you want to keep the volume down yet still hear it, you can just tilt your head to the side and listen. Especially good when you need to hands to do something else but still want to be able to listen to radio traffic.

Makes sense but do you guys feel that having that cord could be used against you in a fight with a perp to maybe choke you?

Urban legend has it that you can get one for free by a UF-49 to the Communications Section. Check it out.

I dont use a shoulder mic. I don't have a car radio either. I have a piece of equipment wired to the car that becomes a car radio if I stick my radio into it. It also charges the battery while the radio is in it. This way I'm not runing to the station every few hours for a new battery

WTF kind of contraption is that??????

I don't think I could do without my shoulder mic. My battery will last 14 hours and that's with a good amount of usage. We have a fast charger that juices it up in less than an hour.

We have two batteries for our radios so you hardly ever deal with them dying on you. Mine generally last an entire shift. When they don't I swap them out for a new pair.

I use a mic clipped to the front of my shirt. I also use an ear piece for listening to the radio covertly.

What if you have to exit the car in a hurry? Seems like you could end up leaving the radio in the car when you need it most. It would also be a pain in the butt to try to put it into the holder on your belt while trying to catch someone that's running away.

The only problem I see with police using wireless things is the bad guys using technology against it. I think we should let these companies develop their products and technologies for a few more years, I can see someone breaking into that wireless connection and transmitting through the system.

Possibly, but in a perfect world, you'd never let someone that close to your person, so as to choke you. Plus, you *could* wear the cord under your vest/uniform shirt if you're worried about it. Never really caused me much of a problem when I wore one.
