I've opened back up the Suggestions area, so if you have any, please feel free. This was requested by TPDHellhound, and being one now, I can see the benifits of discussing it. :)

Great idea.

An area for police to discuss supervision ideas, comments, criticism, etc.

But wouldnt it be better served in the Verified area?

Some of us who are not yet sworn officers have experience in this area, and can also learn a lot from the discussion of it. Putting this topic in a restricted area would cause us to miss out.

Policy discussions, Use of Force discussions, and such are what I would be worried about in this forum.

I was going to originally when suggested but it may help get views from both sides, which could be helpful.

Just a thought on my part.

Remember the ruckus when everyone and their mother could chime in on the Ask-a-Cop?

Oh yeah. I'll see how it goes for a bit.

I was thinking that discussions like that would be kept general enough that it would not be an issue. Obviously, discussions of a sensitive nature, such as the above cited topics, don't belong in public view.

It's probably up to us to be a bit circumspect with responses. Most supervisory questions are probably general enough to be valid across many employment situations.

Okay in plain English I'm trying to say that managing people is the same in most jobs. :o

I think if there are discussions on what might be called "command and control" or "field command" issues then it's up to the participants to be a bit discreet. But I think there's benefit in getting as many views as possible.

I was surprised that this wasn't in the verifed section.

I agree with Oscarmitre.

Simply because I am a SECURITY supervisor instead of a LE supervisor doesn't mean that I may not have a valid idea or course of action to suggest. By the same token, some ideas may be useful in my job, but I would not have considered it because I had no experience with it. I understand why many LEOs may be skittish about talking about certain issues, but this is a supervisory category, not tactics or procedures that can be used to evade arrest.

Please do not remove what could be a valuable forum on the off-chance that something sensitive may be discussed. If it does occur, it can easily be moved into a protected area. I joined this site because it is comprised of law enforcement and civilian personnel. Although I have had issue with some responses to various topics, most participants tend to be more respectful and thoughtful than those I encountered on other sites.

Ok...whiny rant over. :)

Honestly, I think the "Managing" of people is for the old guard... or assembly line type positions... Where you say what to do and that's it. Push this button for this, push that button and pull this lever when this happens, etc etc...

Our Job is more of a Leader role, where you give the desired outcome, but leave the process up to the Person performing the Job. Our "Direction" of personel would be more of advising legal and moral means of achieving the outcome, and Leading by example.

Though I am fairly confident my zeroing in on the term "Managing" by Oscar was read into a bit :o

How about this, Verified and Mods?

We trust the mods to keep everyone in line including us coppers and retired coppers, why not let them join the verified sections?

Just a thought.

Oh 'sept Greenlead:D

Seriously though why not let 'em in?

Umm, no.

But seriously, a verified section with the same name would be nice... though I am sure Jason might not want it so cluttered.
