Mexico opposed to U.S. border fence

MEXICO CITY - Mexico warned Thursday that the U.S. proposal to build miles of border fence will damage relations between the two countries.

The Foreign Relations Department said it was "deeply worried" about the proposal, which is working its way through the Senate, adding it will "increase tension in border communities."

"These measures will harm the bilateral relationship. They are against the spirit of co-operation that is needed to guarantee security on the common border," the department said in a statement.

The House of Representatives and Senate are maneuvering to speed construction of a 700-mile fence along the United States' southern border aimed at keeping migrants and criminals from entering the country illegally.

A House-Senate homeland security funding bill containing $1.2 billion to begin building the fence could be passed and sent to President Bush before lawmakers depart Washington this weekend.

Mexico's Foreign Relations Department said that only a comprehensive immigration reform would stop millions of Mexicans sneaking across its northern desert and swimming over the Rio Grande into the United States.

"A partial measure that is exclusively focused on security does not deal with reality and represents a political answer rather than a viable solution," it said in the statement.

President Vicente Fox has rallied against the wall, calling it "shameful" and comparing it to the Berlin Wall, which divided Germany.

President-elect Felipe Calderon, who takes over from Fox on Dec.1, has also spoken out against the measure.

There are an estimated 11 million Mexicans in the United States, about half of whom are illegal. Last year, Mexican migrants sent home more than $20 billion in remittances, providing Mexico with its second biggest source of foreign income after oil.

We might be able to save some money if we dumped all our trash in mexico and THEY built a fence to keep US out. We win a few times...
1. The mexicans will have a job (building a fence and cleaning the trash)

Instead of being able to export their poor to the U.S, there is the slight possibility, that maybe, very little chance, but maybe, they will restore economic policies to take care of their own. Mexico is a dump, filled with corrupt politicians who do not care about their own people. Let's be honest, if I was living in that country I'd be trying to cross the border to make a better life for myself also. But don't come over here and have the nerve to demand rights as a citizen and waive a Mexican flag in my country. If you love Mexico so much, stay your *** over there.

It's is sickening! Here American men and women can barely afford to send their kids to college, pay their auto and medical insurance but we are suppose to take care of non-citizens first? Provide social security, welfare, free medical care, education and security for people who aren't even citizens...but my grandma, who was born and raised in this country has to wait 4-6 hrs in the emergency room and pay twice the premium then 6 yrs ago because of people here without insurance? Get the hell out of here! And to add insult to injury, many latinos see it as a racial issue. I'm not racist at all against latinos, I'm a minority myself...but latinos need to understand that illegal immigration effects them also. When you move to Texas and realize your auto insurance premium is through the roof, it is because you are paying for the fact that illegal immigrants are driving without insurance (and this is a very minor problem compared to others that illegal immigration is fueling). I have no problem with immigration or foreigners, but we need to take care of our OWN before we take care of somebody else's poor. And those ACLU'ers need to get a damn life...they are the same people who don't believe in the DEA because they say people should be allowed to put whatever substance they want in their body...UGH!:mad:

I work at the border and we aren't allowed to do crap yet everyday I turn on the TV and watch programs that are complaining about our immigration problems and how we are taking steps blah blah blah... Everytime during the 5th of May they have to have a parade and fly the Mexican flag...and Mexican gang violence always ensues....it makes me sick. I don't see Irish walking the streets on St. Patrick's Day. I don't see Black's waiving any African Flags during the month of Febuary (Black History Month), no Jews in the street on Yom Kippur with Israeli flags. Hell...I don't even see the Muslims celebrating Ramadan, I am not sure which flag they would use.

No, the Mexican's in my city are replacing the culture with their own. America was built on the melding of cultures not the domination of one. The Mexican culture is a great culture....in Mexico. That is why people vacation there. The Mexican culture in the US is one of crime, self-loathing, victimization of themselves and self-pity. Of course, that is why our government has seen fit to endow them with gifts of social security and medical. What a crock!!!

Instead we have hospitals (Florida) being sued because a Mexican national died because his family couldn't read the English signs in the hospital and get him to the right place. Our courts, jails, civic buildings, driving tests, Miranda warning, ect. have to be read in Spanish. When are the Koreans, Chinese, Vietmanese, Germans, French, ect. nationals going to start using this loop-hole and demand that everything is written in their native tongue? When they do, we will be so covered in bullsh@t that we will have to call the language line anytime that we need to talk to someone.

Some civic group carried the US Flag, WA State Flag and the Mexican Flag in a 3 man abreast formation. The Mexican flag was carried in the middle and the US flag was on the far left and was carried at the same height and angle as the two other flags. What the hell is wrong with our country?

I ended up driving by the Franklin County Courthouse and saw the big US flag on top and the first thought that subconcsiously ran through my head was, "Oh, that must be the US Embassy"
