My dear friends,
I have very sad news about another fine human being. Officer Jason Pratt was shot last night while searching for a suspect who ran on foot after a traffic stop. The suspect was the shot multiple times by another officer and died at 0212 this morning. Officer Pratt is in very critical condition and the outcome does not look good. I will keep you posted. I am really praying that I won't be attending another cop funeral.

Resqr hon...
I don't normally read the "officer down" posts, but I know you work there....
Please keep us posted.
How is the rest of the department handling it? And you?
I'll give you a call Monday and we can talk a little.

I went to the hospital yesterday and learned that they had to put him in a medically induced coma to control the swelling of his brain. It really doesn't look good. Some guys are taking this really hard. I don't know him too well. Only chatted with him a few times at the hospital (my full time job). I hadn't seen him for about 4-5 months prior to the shooting. He was extremely nice to us when he brought somebody in. Really enjoyed the job. His wife works at the same hospital I do and this hit a lot of people there pretty hard. We are all praying hard for him and his family. My partner from the hospital was hired by OPD last year and Officer Pratt was one of the few guys that treated him as an equal rather than an underling. My former partner really isn't doing so well.

Tonight, as if to add insult to injury the media interviewed the scumbag's family and they had the audacity to ask why everybody was praying for the officer and not their ****bag realtive. Well, I've come up with the following:
One's a cop
One's a lifelong criminal who won't be burdening society any longer.
One served the community with dignity.
One robbed the community. 148 negative entries on his rap sheet.
'NUFF SAID!!!!

Does the wife work at the same hospital he is in? If not, do ya think they could transfer him? I'm sure it will be more convient and easier on her emotionally to know he is right there. As I am sure you know, it is pretty common to induce comas for brain traumas. I pray that he comes out of it fine and the swelling stops.
Its gonna be another one of "those" talks, isn't it? Where all I do is say "yeah" "uh-oh" "oh" and "wow" for 45 minutes... LOL
I love ya, resqr!! You know I'll be there.... if I don't fall asleep first. :D

No she works at the same hospital I do. Moving him isn't an option right now. When I visited his hospital, they weren't even allowing her up to see him for a while. I don't know why, but I'm sure the reasons were just. He's in one of the best trauma hospitals in the country. I haven't heard anything new, yet but he's still fighting.
