Well. I took the ICE exam today and I did horrible on the math section; I believe I did well on the other sections, however. :o
I suck a*s at math, and I even studied for it - GMAT Book and DHS-ICE study book.
Does anyone know how the ICE exam is graded?
Is there a min. score in each section?
Can a bad score in one section be made up in the others?
Are some sections weighted more then others?
Do they count veteran pts in the test score?
Has anyone thought they failed the math portion and found out later that they passed?
Any info on this will help...
P.S Regardless of the outcome, I will keep my head up, drive on, and try again

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you did poorly on the spelling section too.

I thought I failed the math portion as well. Found out later I passed
Only thing to do is to wait on your results. If you pass, great!! If not retake the test!!!

However, you have to wait a year to retake the exam. I failed mine in January and am just waiting patiently.

You failed the math portion, yet your name is ObtuseAngle. If they only had a geometry section on it.... because everyone knows geometry isn't math :D
All joking set aside, hope you did well on the exam ;)

Thanks for the information:)
I have heard from others that 'they' thought they had failed the math section and later passed. I hope that is the case for me. The next 2-4 weeks is going to be long - I will post my results wither I passed or not.
P.S I corrected my misspelled word ‘horriable’ to horrible for my first post:p

Cruel, but true.
Unfortunately, if you fail one part of the test, you fail the whole test... I hope you didnt fail though.

I just got my test results today, I failed the exam:o
There is no score, just pass/fail; I am not sure where I failed, but I am assuming it might have been the math portion.
Another defeat, before it was the FBI phase one test, now this.
I am starting to believe that I am a bad test taker, because I studied for this exam.
This really sucks, however, I going to try and keep my head up and drive forward. I can re-test a year from now.
Good luck to the rest of you - I am 29, so I am not out of the game yet!
FYI: Does anyone know if ICE opens the hiring process each year?
They do not test every year. They are currently hiring / processing people from the 2003 test as well as the 2005 test. Might be awhile before they get around to it again and from what I hear, it is based on budget, among other things.
One consideration...try getting on with BP and moving over when ICE opens again. BP is hurting badly for people and is always testing.
Good luck.

I feel your pain. Do you know where you might have failed?

I don't know where I failed mine (took ICE test back in 9/05), but was told if you call the ICE/CBP HR number they can give you more insight about the results of your test.
From talking to MHC previously when I took the test, here's some intel: http://www.911jobforums.com/showpost.php?p=372204&postcount=50

Try not to let it get you down too much. I'm awful at math, and have failed tests of all sorts before because, well, I'm just really not any good at math above multiplication/division/basic geometry.
I've got a test coming up for another Academy I want to attend, I need to find a math tutor.

Thanks Mad and everyone else for their responses and encouragement!
It helps!
I studied and tried my best on both the ICE and FBI exam and failed; that is all I can ask of myself. I can live with trying my best and failing, but that doesn’t mean that I am giving up either!
Next time – and yes there is going to be a next time – I will try again, for both agencies, and others, and hopefully succeed. I know now what areas of math I am weak in and I will apply a different strategy. By no means I am going to give up, I am going to keep trying, till I reach that 37 age cut-off and I have about 7 years to go.
I believe everything happens for a reason, and even though these failures hurt, I am going to drive on – my goal of a fed LEO has not changed.
I am down but not out!:D
Obtuse,
You seem to have the right attitude for the job...You just have to apply that tenacity to passing the test.Better results next time!

Try applying for an 0083 position. I have tested for some investigator type positions and the "logical" reasoning tests arent as easy they might seem to be. Keep studying the types of math questions - fractions, arthimetic reasoning etc. etc.
There are A LOT of different types of law enforcement jobs and they test differently, just keep at it. :)

Nope. Pencil and paper only. I don’t think you’ll need a calculator. It’s not that difficult. If you studied their booklet and did well on prep questions, you will be fine.

Remember math is not easy for many of us, I am one of them.
Prepare and believe in yourself.
Good Luck!

I took the ICE SA exam in September, and passed. I suck at Algebra word problems, but went to Borders and ordered Painless Math Word Problems. It helped re-familiarize me to Algebra. Just work problems until you can't stand to work them anymore. Take a break and start working them again. Also, if you know of a math tutor, I suggest seeking their advice. Try your local highschool or college math teachers. You'll make it next time.
Hang in there! My brother had to take the state exam for years before he passed and got a job with the county sheriff's office. He's smart but just a bad test taker. I took the old TEA based Marshals exam in '97. I am horrible at math but I am good at taking tests and scored in the mid 90s. I still can't do any problems in my test prep book. Good luck on the next go around.

Thanks Timber! I ordered Painless Math from Amazon, I got it the other day. I bought another word problem book also.

Hey bro, I feel your pain I took the FBI entrance exam and bombed bad, I suck at math and seem to get nervious taking tests go figure. I even had a math tutor for FBI entrance exam because I know I suck at math and did not due a damn thing right, but life goes on.
Out of curosity how did the ICE exam compare to the FBI, because that test was insane. Were they alike or was the ICE more difficult (i.e. math section)? Also any books you recommend for ICE (special agent) entrance exam? Best of luck to you man and talk to you later.

I believe I might have issues with my testing ability. One is math, the only remedy is studying, which i am trying to handle. Two, the skill and ability of test taking. These are two different apples; one is the material, the other is knowing how these exams are written, and how to reduce an answer, guessing, time management, stuff like that....I think my problem is i know the material, but when i comes to crunch time, I freeze up and damn near forget what I studied for - like stage fright...Dunno, something for you to think about.
To answer your question, the FBI math section was alot tougher! I guessed on darn near all of them. The ICE was easier and you get alot more time to finish. I though I knew the ICE math questions. I really don't know for certian that I failed the math sections of the FBI and ICE exams. They both that personality questions in them and I could have 'failed' those sections instead. I am just guessing because in the both the FBI and ICE math section, I had the most problems.
I do know one thing, I took the TEA for the USSS; failed that, and I KNOW it was the math section that burned me. The USSS is letting me retest in June 07, so I have about 6 months to study - and study I will.
The books to use to ARCO Special Agent Book. If you suck at math, like me, get some math workbooks as well. Get the Word problems books, like 'Painless Word Problems' books like that.
Good luck!
Hey bro I know your pain, that damn FBI test was insane. I'm going to check out those math books you suggested. Also good luck with the USSS, a tough gig from what I hear, be prepared to do a ton of fraud (white coller) work from what I hear. Anyway good luck and keep in touch it's good to know that other people are trying to fed. Best of luck man.

I think FBI math part was is more difficult due to the time constrains. I took and passed both, ICE and FBI. ICE timing and difficulty was reasonable. FBI, on the other hand, was something outrageous. That was the first time in my life where I was looking at the questions and not seeing anything. I heard people saying that they guessed on 5-6 questions. Well, I ATTEMPTED 6 questions and guessed on the rest of math part. I am a very good test taker and good in math, but after FBI’s math test I have a feeling that they put it there to just scare the hell out of us. Just to rattle our nerves. Because I do not honestly see how you can solve those problems in time allotted.
