Hello all! I am new to this board. My husband is getting ready to graduate from the Academy on the 29th of August. Needless to say its been a long road for the whole family. We have been together for 7 wonderful yrs and have two small children 7mnths and 2 years.
What I was wondering if anyone has any good gift ideas for graduation. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Aymee

Congratulations to your husband and yourself. I think that when I graduate, the one present that I want myself is that nice, shiny badge. That will make everything worth while. I am sure your husband will be happy and excited to have made it through.
As for real gift suggestions, I can't think of any myself, sorry.

The traditional gift for a graduating police officer, and what I got my wife, is a back up weapon.

One of the guys I graduated from the academy with received a bullet proof vest from his wife for graduation. His third day on the street - he was shot twice - the vest saved him. Appears it was the best present for the entire family.
Buy him a new truck. A '04 Ford F 150 Lightning in black.

That is the most romantic thing I've ever read Norm. Nothing says love more than a handful of loaded weapon!
I can just imagine what goes on in your household Norm...with all the weapons...the scene from Police Academy when Tackleberry and his woman start disrobing and all the guns go flying!:p ;)

Damnitt man I resemble that remark:D .

P.S. Did you get my PM?
Most departments issue vests so I would hold off on that one. ( Unless they actually don't !) I had to buy my first vest $300, still have it too. Can't bring myself to throw it away.
Backup gun is good but some departmentsd limit what you are allowed to carry. We can't carry anything but a .40 as a backup since that is the caliber of our duty guns. Off duty is probably wide open. We are not limited there.

I think the Ford Lightning sounds like a better choice - lol. Or better yet, a Red Mustang GT convertible 5 speed - Saleen.
(or wait until '05 and buy the new design)

I hate that Mustang style, not a fan of it at all. Go with the Lightning though, what man wouldn't like to drive around in a truck like that?

Dear tikki02,
I too would go with a vest. It's just a basic.
Wish you husband "Good Luck" for me, ok.

I like the current style of Stangs, I should clarify that I was talking about the new one that is coming in 2005. The curret ones and last model are great though.

T-dogg we are too much alike. I had a sportbike(hate the term crotch-rocket) but unfortunately I had to sell it. If this site still has the pic page you can see my bike in my picture.

Second the BUG (backup gun) idea. If a bad guy ever gets hold of his primary firearm, or if it jams, the little pocket piranha you buy him may be what brings him home to you. You can get a Kel-Tec 32 for about $300, and it's so easy to carry he'll never be tempted to go out without it, even when he feels like he's being dragged around by all the STUFF on his duty belt! (Be prepared to get a second one for yourself, once you see how easy they are to carry.)
You've never seen a guy more proud of his woman than when she buys him a gun! They brag to their LEO buddies about it!:D
Another idea would be a stocked cleaning kit, even when it isn't fired their duty gun collects all kinds of grunge which could make it misfire just when he needs it.

Alright, so what did you get him? :p
At my husband's police academy graduation, my parents bought a painting "The Runaway" and a wrapped box of Krispy Kream Doughnuts. We all laughed our butts off!
