Is it illegal to have strobe lights in your front side clear parking lenses and in your reverse light compartments? They of course will only flash once only when arming and disarming the alarm system.

If that's the only time they will flash...then why have them? Can't the standard lights do the same job?

I just purchased a Caddy, not customized, but it already has these lights in the car. They are always off accept when arming and disarming. The standard lights do flash also.

Thanks

If that is the only time the strobe lights would activate, then I would see no problem.

Are they strobe lights, or is it just the regular side markers and reverse lights flashing? I think most cars with factory alarms and even remote locks do this. I know my fiancee's Ford Taurus does.

The standard parking lights all around the car flash as any normal alarm system. The lights I'm talking about are a separate application that have been installed. There are similar to the bright blue strobes that I see in the reverse lights on unmarked cruisers (Mercury Grand Maq) in my area. It looks good and looks like it really does have an alarm that works when they flash. However, you guys might be kind and fair when it comes to the rules and boundaries of breaking balls. If I did come across an officer that has a tough neck and saw me disarming my alarm system and saw the strobes, I know that he would have every right to question me about them. Right?

Here, the minute you drive on a public road, even if the lights aren't activated you can be ticketed for having non-approved (non-factory or equivalent) equipment on your car.

Great point! The bulbs are invisible in day light however if seen flashing at night.................Good point. I've never in 15 years been stopped or pulled over at check points and my car blends in with traffic. Not to stereotype, but I'm also not one that's leaning back to the side with a bandana and a baseball cap on backwards. These guys are the ones that I do mobile multimedia installations for and always have a problem with being pulled over or being checked for some reason or another. Low riders, rims, flashing lights, blasting music and looking like hoods. I ask them, do you need more of a reason to look suspicious. Me, I'm a family guy. It's usually me, my wife and my 2 year old that are always in the car going somewhere. No tints, upstanding citizens.

That's nice until you get pulled over because your tail light just went out and I notice the extra bulbs in the lens.

The lights are outta here! Gone. I strive to do the right thing all the time. I'm an example setter for my son and my wife works in the criminal court system and were very specific about laws and rules.

Maybe it was for the double post?

Short answer - They're illegal in NYS. And BTW, unmarkeds with blue strobes in Nassau County are more than likely Volunteer Firefighters. The only blue PD lights I've seen on LI are on some NCPD Highway Patrol marked cars, and some marked village PD's.

basically, if it looks like a cop car or any sort of police light, DONT do it

if the vehicle is turned off and parked, there shouldnt be too much of a problem

It's generally frowned upon unless you are updating the information. Answering a question or asking a question for somebody who hasn't logged on in a year is not good ettiquette. If you are just sticking in your $.02 when the topic has already been taken care of, don't bother.
