I am a new member to this forum and I am starting up a K9 unit in my small department. I am trying to find out if any one has constructed their own transport carrier for their patrol vehicle. I have been told in the past that cheaper to make your own instead of buying one of the prefabbed ones. I am wanting to construct a carrier in a 2005 Impala that already has a Setina cage and window bars in it, mainly i need to construct the floor and seat back sections. Any help is appreciated on this topic. If you have designs and/or measurements available please email me gouldpd@sbcglobal.net

We made many of our own transport cages. All we did was completely remove the back seat. Cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to fit both the seat and the seat back. Covered it with rubber matting. We secured it by making braces to level the bottom board and driving in a few screws. It worked very well for us. We purchased manufactured screens and covers for the door. Less than 300 per car.

Not sure where you are from or how big of a department you have but we got Wal-Mart to buy ours. Its all aluminum and was quite expensive but they donated the money to buy it.
