Hi I live in Illinois. I've been pulled over twice within a year for tinted windows and front plates. I went to court twice and the case was dismissed because I showed pictures that I took the tints down and put the licence plates back on in the front. Usually you get 2 strickes and on the 3rd you pay a fine. I got rid of the car I got the tickets with and bought a different car. When I bought it had tints and no lience plates in the front so I got pulled over the 3rd time and got 2 more tickets again. My questions does the 3rd time counts as a 3rd time no metter what car I drive or will the Judge look at it as the 1st time.

I'm not a LEO but I can say, almost with absolute certainly, that this is going to be the third strike. Why would the tickets go with the car and not the person who is driving.

So after the first time you put the tint back on and took the front plate off?
I hope you pay. Here you would've already paid so you wouldn't have played that little game with the judge. You have been granted one too many chances to comply IMHO. Sorry but I hope the judge strokes you this time.

I would have to agree.
How many times do you need to touch the hot stove before you learn not to?
If the judge lets you off this time are you planning to replace the window tint and remove the front plate again?

No guys lol this is it. Tints are off and plates back on and it stays that way. I bought the car in the winter thats why I wasn't able to take them off in the first place because you need a decend weather in order the take the glue of the windows completely.... I've learned my lesson the 2nd time in court and and I wasn't going to leave it like that untill busted and yet I was a week before I originally planned to make my car all "legal".

To answer your question (not talking about my case and don't mean to be rude) if you ever burrow a friend's car or maybe your son's/doughter's car do you feel like you should be punished for illigal things in the car or on the car since you are at the moment driving it?

To answer your questions as a non-LEO but with common sense is yes. If you are going to be driving their car you should take 100% responsibility for it. If you are willing to take the responsibility of driving the vehicle then you should be fully liable for what is in it. If there's anything illegal in it, then don't drive it; AND don't say "well I didn't know it was in here".
I have never heard of "burrowing" a friends car. Nor have I ever heard of being punished for "illigal" things in the car. Spell Check is your friend :):D

yep "burrowing" your friends car with "illigal" stuff on it makes you responsible for all illigal things while you're in physical control "burrowing" it.

Have you ever considered the reason why you are being pulled over is because the officers can't see through all that tint? LEO's put themselves in harms way everyday and it's up to civilians to try to comprehend this. Please try to turn the situation around and put yourself in their position.
I send this with kindness,k.

Move to Florida
Here in FL we dont have to worry about plates in the front and tints.
I dont know why you need more than one plate on a car, its a waste of material and of money, plus it looks tacky.
It gets so hot down here that not having tints on the car would make your AC almost usless. All tints sold at tint shops are legal here.
The only time I have heard of someone getting a ticket for tint is when they double up on the layers.

May be it looks that way for you.... I can assure you that for us it is not.
Where I work, we only have a rear plate and I sure wish we would come back to front and back plate. Every time I see a car of interest while crossing I have to read the plate by looking in the mirror(wich is not always easy) or twist my head to look backward while driving forward. Not so safe!!!!
Front plate is a definite asset for law enforcement officers.

That I doubt. I really doubt that because you have tinted window it makes AC more efficient!!! It's certainly cooling down the car when park and protect your interior from the sun effect.... but to say that it makes AC usless is a huge step!
As for the legality of the tints sold in tint shops.... I'm not so sure either. Most manufacturers sell their car with tinted window already at the limits of 70%(it as to let the sun go trought 70%)... The percentage may vary from a state to another but usually it plays around that amount. Most of the tints sold would be legal if not installed on an already tinted window, but considering that they are installed on already manufactured tinted window... it makes them illegal in most case.
As for enforcement, it is only a matter of time.... LE agency were not equipped with photometer until recently.
If you come in my neighborhood... we've bought 2 instrument.
It's a 150$ fine to have tints on the front windows. For the departement that does'nt have the photometer, LE officers are now issuing 48hrs mandatory photometer inspection at an authorized agency. If illegals and not removed within 72 hrs... they cancel the plates for mecanical reasons(it is consider as a major)
Personnally ... I enforce it... First, because it is a matter of safety for us! Second...you would'nt beleive how many Hells Angel and suspended drivers I caught because they were hidding behind tints.
As anything else... my discretion is about everything... Good people goes with a warning... criminals will most likely end up with a paper!!!:D
I often turn around for tints... just to find out who's behind!:D
Not sure your county of prosecution ... but here its an initial $75 fine for no front plate and another $75 for the tint. Since you got stopped not once, not twice but this being the 3rd time, don't expect to get away with a dismissal. You were/are fully aware by now that to be legal is the Land of Lincoln you MUST have an attached front license plate and that your windows have NO tint. Since this new car didn't pass those 2 laws you were fully aware of, expect no sympathy. Suck it up, pay the fine, or don't drive that car!
Okay, lemme just say, cowboy up and pay it. Especially since you know the rules in our fair state.. And if you don't, well, here's a little something you may want to look at:
(625 ILCS 5/12-503) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-503)
Sec. 12-503. Windshields must be unobstructed and equipped
with wipers.
(a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any sign,
poster, window application, reflective material, nonreflective
material or tinted film upon the front windshield, sidewings or
side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver. A
nonreflective tinted film may be used along the uppermost
portion of the windshield if such material does not extend more
than 6 inches down from the top of the windshield. Nothing in
this Section shall create a cause of action on behalf of a
buyer against a dealer or manufacturer who sells a motor
vehicle with a window which is in violation of this Section.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(625 ILCS 5/3‑413) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3‑413)
(Text of Section from P.A. 92‑668)
Sec. 3‑413. Display of registration plates, registration stickers and driveway decal permits.
(a) Registration plates issued for a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle, trailer, semitrailer, truck‑tractor, apportioned bus, or apportioned truck shall be attached thereto, one in the front and one in the rear. The registration plate issued for a motorcycle, trailer or semitrailer required to be registered hereunder and any apportionment plate issued to a bus under the provisions of this Code shall be attached to the rear thereof. The registration plate issued for a truck‑tractor or an apportioned truck required to be registered hereunder shall be attached to the front thereof.
(b) Every registration plate shall at all times be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which it is issued so as to prevent the plate from swinging and at a height of not less than 5 inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom of such plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible and shall be maintained in a condition to be clearly legible, free from any materials that would obstruct the visibility of the plate, including, but not limited to, glass covers and tinted plastic covers. Clear plastic covers are permissible as long as they remain clear and do not obstruct the visibility of the plates. Registration stickers issued as evidence of renewed annual registration shall be attached to registration plates as required by the Secretary of State, and be clearly visible at all times.
Oh and if you have other curiousities about the vehicle codes, you can see them all here (http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=1815&ChapAct=625%26nbsp%3BILCS%26nbsp%3B5%2F&ChapterID=49&ChapterName=VEHICLES&ActName=Illinois+Vehicle+Code%2E).
Yeha, you are going to have to pay.
My question is, why, KNOWING what would happen, would you NOT take the tints down and keep the front plate up on the car you just bought?
Depending on the car too they just hunt thoses down. When I had a Z28, only the rear deck lid was tinted, and I was pulled over ALLLL the time. Now I have tints all around, xcept for the driver and passanger side windows (per illinois code), and I rarely get stopped.
Just follow the friggin laws.
First time I give you a 5 day card to remove the tint.
Second time it is $106 and my autograph.
Third time it is $500 and an even better autograph.

Its cold in the summer in Canada. I was in Ohio in July and the nights were cold.
In Miami it is hot 24/7 in the summer. I am talking CRAZY hot. 9 pm and its its in the 80's then in the day time its in the upper 90's. For anyone that knows about temps, they get taken in the shade. It never goes above 100 in Miami but if you factor in the humidity and if not even a leaf is turning you are in for a real treat.
Sure its 98 degrees.... not 110 like in the deserts. But when your clothes are sticking to you and the air is heavy and thick with humidity and bugs are flying all around you, AC starts looking like the greatest invention ever.
I wasnt talking about putting tints on factory tinted windows. Thats retarded.
Tints affect the performance of the AC. There is really no argument here. At night or in the shade a cars ac is always cooler.
I only drive in the day time because I have to. If my windows were not tinted I think I would freak.
I can see the advantage of having plates on the front of the car but police in Florida dont seem to have a problem doing what they have to do.
My friend in Ohio has his car registered here in FL. He lives in both states and loves the fact that he does not need a front plate on his car. I guess its a big deal to some people.
I guess the biggest problem must be with someone that has a sports car. I would never put a front tag on Corvette. I dont have worry about that because A: I live in FL, the 1 tag state!
And B: I dont have a spots car :D
Maybe one day.

Case was dismissed. I think I was at the right place at the right time because everyone in that court room got their cases dismissed (speeding, stops signs, driving without licence) just got harsh warning. I did too, next time $500 fine but there wont be a next time for a long a very long time.
mcsd and mcsap are you both police officers?
If I wasn't a police officer...how would I write a written warning/$106 fine and or a $500 fine ?
Also, check out the " Verified LEO" under my name , it means that I have submitted proof that I am in fact a Law Enforcement Officer. Although a sig line can be quite creative and is not a guarantee of employment , it does say cuffin' and stuffin' since 1986 with a ring of truth.
