I was talking to a CJ student the other day and she was saying how there are always recruiters at her school trying to get students to join their agency. Even federal agencies like the DEA frequently participate in job fairs like this. I was disappointed because I don't think any recruiters have come to my university. Do recruiters come to your school? What agencies?

I am not even sure if my school offered a CJ degree. That being said, there was a USMS recruiter at a job fair that I attended. I was not really interested in LE. I was just BSing with her and she suggested I apply. One thing led to another and somehow , in spite of me, they offered me a job. :D

We have had the ATF, AL highway patrol, Treasury Dept. They come at random dates throughout the year, mainly late fall semester or during the spring semester.

We have two "big" career fairs at my school. One in the Fall and one in the Spring. For the last 2 years, only 2 agencies have been making the trip: Broward Sheriff's Office and the Pembroke Pines PD. The IRS always comes, but they are never hiring for any LE positions. I wish the USMS and DEA would show up to ours.

Me too.
This may be a stupid thing to say, but don't the feds have applications through the roof right now? I wonder why they even bother doing this since they already have their choice from the cream of the crop.

I went to check the list of employers for the Spring fair and I saw the Department of State. I wonder if they are hiring SA's?

Oh yeah, to answer the question. We have a lot regularly come to my college. Well at least they did when I was there. FBI, GBI, DIA, DSS, abc's, def's etc :D All but the air force intel service came, oh and yeah I never saw a DSSC guy show up.
The reason being of course; it's a military school.

At my school we had Las Vegas Metro come and at a career fair we had Airport Police Department, Madison Police Department, FBI, Customs and Border Patrol.

My school has 3 job fairs a year. There is one in the fall and spring for everybody. Usually for this one 2 or 3 agencies show up. There has also been one just for us CJ students where last year I think about 30 agencies were there. We have a very large program that puts out about 40+ MCOLES certified officers with a BS degree a year so we draw a lot of attention.

My school has career fairs once or twice a year. Usually the bigger depts in MN will show up. Last spring, Rapid City, SD showed up just on their own.

My school, when I was actually attending the main campus, I have been satalite for the past year or so, used to have the whole "CJ club". At this little club, they would bring in people from all over the place to speak with us, and give us applications and what not.
About once a year, at another school where my school sends its students for the academy, they have a large job fair. Lots of fun stuff to do.
Back when I was trying to finish up the CJ part of my degree and actually had CJ teachers and advisors, they too were always great to get the word of mouth from, or the "who's hiring" list, or what not.
But now, I do nothing but try to figure out what the school will let me destroy or blow up, that will not get me expelled. :D

We have school wide job fairs as opposed to those strictly for CJ majors. Usually a few Federal agencies show up. Oddly enough, the local agencies never take part. A couple of local FDs are always there, but no PDs.
I have had students hired by some of the local agencies, but they got information, etc, from places other than a campus job fair.
I don't know of any of our students who have been hired by the Feds. We've actually had a couple of CJ students "go the other way" and hire on with the FD too!

Back in my high school days many, many moons ago, we used to turn off the bathroom lights, light a roll of toiler paper on fire, toss it into the bathroom, then kick open the door, grab the fire extinguisher, and spray the bathroom!
All we got was a stern lecture. If a student were to do that today, they'd be expelled or worse. I'm a college professor now, and I still have to fight the urge to do it!

Best thing to do is actively check the Diplomatic Security website regularly.

Generally they tend to hire each year around March/April
