I replaced the jacket, so I might as well go all out and replace the duty bag. We're talking standard patrol duty bag, not any of the duffles, tactical bags or range bags.

Just the plain, old patrol/duty bag.

I've found these brands, all between $30 and $40.

Galls (Standard Duty Bag)
Hatch D1
Premier
5.11
Uncle Mike's
GT Distributing
D&K

Fess up, everybody! Likes/Dislikes? Durability? Features?

Opinions are never scarce around RP! :)

I haven't had a problem with the hatch bag yet.

BTW, I've had it since I was a member of this site.

I love the bag that I got off here for my supporting membership. I replaced 2 bags and a file folder with this bag plus i have room for my flashlights, camera, film, extra batteries, and 2 boxes of extra ammo. I have a take home 4 wheel drive so when i work the interstate or someone gets my ride in the snow it takes me like 3 seconds to get everything i would ever need out.

I've got the Hatch D1 bag. It's great. Has pockets and spaces for everything I need and even room for stuff I don't!

I've managed to convert 3 other guys at my station onto the hatch bag (as well as gloves) too.

I got just a plain old duffel bag. It has a lot of pockets to keep some stuff separate. It has worked fine for the last 5 years i've been on.

I am happy with my Uncle Mike's. Plenty of room and I had to look for other stuff to fill it.

I paid $45 for my roomy Uncle Mike's when I got hired and I liked it soooo much that I bought another one from a forum acquaintance of mine for $20. :)

I have a 5.11 and like it. It is VERY sturdy and durable. It has heaps of pockets and doo-dad holders. I give it two thumbs up!

I have known guys that have used plastic shopping bags and a clip board.

A hard Samsonite brief case is good enough to carry anything you need, and it can be thrown on the floor to allow another officer to sit in passenger seat.

You carry enough equipment on your belt, why do you want to carry more in a bag. A brief case can also be used in a non-uniform role. I don't see too many Detectives lugging big bags around.

If it doesn't fit in a briefcase or a knapsack you won't need it.

I would say the hatch... There is plenty of room for all your equipment.. extra mags, back up weapon etc.. etc.. etc...

But ... to respond to your comments:

A hard Samsonite brief case is good enough to carry anything you need, and it can be thrown on the floor to allow another officer to sit in passenger seat.I don't know how the build cars down under, but here, we have trunks (aka 'boots'). That's where our duty bags ride when there is a need for someone to ride shotgun.

You carry enough equipment on your belt, why do you want to carry more in a bag. A brief case can also be used in a non-uniform role. I don't see too many Detectives lugging big bags around.I keep things in my duty bag that wouldn't quit look right on my duty belt. A chemical test kit (for collecting blood samples for drivers arrested for OWI), an extra (large, 4 "D" cell) flashlight and colored traffic wands for same, extra set of gloves, extra sets of latex gloves, extra batteries for various items, extra set of cuffs, paper and pads, pens, number blank forms for many different situations, medicine (for myself), etc., etc. A nice nylon duty bag organizes everything better than a briefcase, and it won't slide around on the seat or floors like a greased pig.

If it doesn't fit in a briefcase or a knapsack you won't need it.Spike strips don't fit in a briefcase ... :)

That is a really nice hand bag you have on display. Looks to go very nicely with either pink pumps and maybe a grey on pink full length or a pink knee length with lace around the seams. I can even see white close cut with matching pink pumps to give the ensemble that wow look. Very nice indeed. :p

Mark down another vote for the 5.11 bag. They are a little hard to come by though. Expect most online retailers to ship in 2-4 weeks from the date of order.

By the way my vote goes for the hatch.

Gotta love da Hatch! I bought it last year. Good to keep extra forms, first aid kit, extra radio batteries, clipboards, etc. We had a 1 block walk from our detachment to the underground parkade, so it really came in handy. Too bad it got stolen...I might just do the L4 thing and do it that way to get another one :D

I just received my Hatch HD-1 Patrol Bag from Realpolice. It looks pretty cool.

I do wish there was a manual or something for it, to explain the recommended use for each pouch.
