I am currently waiting to see if i got into the november Academy here in Tampa at the Ybor city Hillsborough community college. its my first time applying, and i will be self sponsored. my question is how many times did you have to apply for those of you who self sponsored and wanted to put yourself through the academy first before going through a police department.

i'm really anxious and would like to get this process started as soon as possible. i think knowing i would have to wait atleast another few months would be a real dissapointment if i didnt get accepted

I got in on the first try. But like one of my instructors used to say..."There's always next academy recruit." LOL. :rolleyes:

The hiring process might take some time mind you .....

The application process for my first department took nearly 18 months. It was 1992 and I am white - they were actively recruiting minorities and white applicants took a back seat. They readily admitted that.

The department I work for now was about 3 months

I applied once and got accepted. My academy starts October 3rd. I will be attending the night academy which runs for 10 months. This allows me to still be employed and support a family while activley pursuing my long time goal.

Tried at 3 different cities, and got hired by the Border Patrol (didn't accept it) and by one of the places I applied locally.
