I was just wondering if anyone in here uses a Rottweiler as their K-9 partner. I am being given a full-blooded German Rottie that is registered. It's only 12 weeks old. I have heard how loyal and obedient they are, instinctively. Of course, you also hear from ignorant people how dangerous they are...but that is with any dog. Anyway, any of you using Rotties? If so, can you send some pics?

I'm not K9 but our department does have one. PM me for specifics.

Rotts are few and far between. The only one I know working is John Hoover in VA works one. I am sure there are others. Rotts do not do well for detection work, such as drug detection due to the structure of their nose and respatory system.
Do not fear their temperment if you raise him correctly. Many behavior issues are enviromental, not genetic, meaning you control it.

I am not K-9 officer but I have raised Rotties since I was a kid. They require alot of attention because of their "energy" but are as well behaved as any breed as long as they are raised correctly. Sounds like kids.:D They do need to exercise alot too.

One of our area handlers (K-9) has a Rottie, (well he says it's a Rottie, but I think it's a bear in a dog suit!).
It's the most dopy loving mutt i've ever known 'till it's working head is on!!
Looks mean too.

Can you post a pic somewhere, or link to the dept. website?
I'm a Rottie fan. There's a few in my area but they arent as common as they used to be. I've seen them do really well in tracking and doing Shutzhund(sp?).
I'm not a K9 handler nor a dog expert. I've had 2 Rotties and am fond of the breed. If I ever become a K9 handler (my dept. doesnt even have a K9) I'd prefer a Rottie.
Nothing clears a sidewalk or a group of people quicker thana big Rottie.
