Working a truckstop third shift on weekends I see alot of potentially DUIs.

Anyway, this morning at 6, first shift came in and one I work with seemed saddend. I asked what was wrong, and he said he'd gotten a DUI after going off the road. I apologized for being so "brutal", then I said "the phone number that comes to my mind is 1-800-DUMB-***." :D

"That's why I don't drink, as it's more trouble than one needs. Since Prohibition never worked, the government smartly tries to crack down on (boozers) driving by lowering the limit for driving drunk to .08."

This is his second DUI (I believe, and I think he's 24) and hopefully he will finally realize alcohol ain't worth losing license, life, etc. over.

What are the most DUIs you've found on someone's record whom you've pulled over (not necessarily for a DUI)?

I know of a local guy who is on #11. I had him for #3, #5 and #8. He is habitually suspended until 2050 when he will be 76 yrs old :) He is also doing state time for that and his burglary hobby.

If your friend didn't get it after the first DUI the second isn't going to stop him.

Just last week I locked up a guy for his sixth DUI. They don't care.

Five or Six around here is very common with their operator's license being suspended until 2010 or later. Of course, they all have good enough lawyers to keep them away from getting a felony conviction, treatment, and real jail time.

You're right, drunk drivers don't care and they don't think that it's a big deal...their attitude is usually, who hasn't drove drunk a time or two....at least until they kill someone!

5 is my record. I know of a guy who has 9 and is in a constant state of drunkeness, but somehow he has smartened up and doesn't drive anymore. He is a professional alcoholic and when you encounter him, he only seems slightly impaired. His speech is ok and he is fine on his feet. A few times he's voluntarily taken the PBT because he (and I) was curious where he was at and he's around the .25 mark.

I think there was one in Chattanooga, TN that had 13 or 14.

Drinking is not the problem. Being drunk and getting behind the wheel is the problem.

Whoops. never thought of that. I will see him at work in a few days and will ask him how things went, and also if his girlfriend was with him, and if so why did she not drive?

OR, drinking (not while driving) and not knowing how to behave yourself!!!!!

The evening of the 4th my wife and I were going to return some library books and movies when this vehicle weaves, brakes, 35 in a 55, speeds up, slows down, etc. normally it would not catch my eye but this all was in the space of about 3 or 4 miles.

We ended up finally 9 miles further on (on cellular with state then locals) when the local cops caught up with us and I pointed out the vehicle. We then left the area since I knew if he was DUI the cops would probably not need a witness. I figure they have my tag if they need to get hold of me.

Would it not figure that I didn't have my scanner working that night? :o

My first month, work a rollover accident, driver is GOA. Comes in a few days later, gets his tickets and walks. See him a few years laters, drunk sleeping in his car, winter in a parking lot, he is advised to walk home. A month or so laters, another officer pops him for the DUI, again in a parking lot. While out on bond, waiting for trial, I find him again, drunk, passed out along side of the road. May not of noticed him if his head would of bounced off the steering wheel rather than the horn
