Six trainee police search dog handlers and two trainee search dog instructors from Singapore have begun a two month course at the Surrey Police Dog Training School.
They are working with trainee search dogs sourced by Surrey Police. The dogs will return to Singapore with them to work as Explosive Search Dog teams once they’ve completed the course and passed the necessary tests.
Surrey Police is one of the leading forces in the world on police dog training, and has provided explosives dogs to Russia and Singapore and drugs dogs to Hong Kong in recent years.
Each year, drugs, search, and explosives dogs are trained for work within the county and many more are trained for other forces in England and Wales.
Inspector Sandy Horvath, head of the Surrey Police Dog Training School, said:
“We are delighted to help Singapore Police develop their own explosive search capability with dogs, handlers and instructors, as they will prove to be an invaluable asset to the country.
“Courses like this give Surrey Police the chance to share its expertise with other forces in England and Wales and around the world, raising our profile and bringing in much needed revenue which is ploughed back into making the service we provide to the people of Surrey even better.
