Just out of curiosity, how hard do you enforce distance between vehicles? Here in Kentucky, they obviously don't enforce it too much. Nothing makes me angrier than a punk riding my tail when I'm already going faster than I should be. What kind of fine does that have?

When I first moved out here to CA, it used to drive me nuts! I am getting used to seeing it, especially from CHP, but I still hate it. (where is my ticket book??)

That's when you take your foot off the gas and very lightly tap the brake enough to make the brake lights go on :D
It's more than likely some teenage punk in a camero whos trying to act hard.
They will get the message, beacuse i doubt he wants a ruined SS front end to repair + an at fault accident (following to closely)
$105.50 I LOVE driving our unmarked Impala ! ( I throw stuff on the back shelf to make it even more "unmarked" :)

$118.50 in Florida and if they are also speading another citation and aggressive driving check in the box. Total is 7 points on their license, and if you get 12 w/in 12 months = license suspended for 4 months.

It's $135 here. Give that one out at a lot of accidents. "I braked straight away but couldn't stop in time."
A couple of times I've seen them really close behind other cars and even us in our big marked truck. A couple of tickets have been handed out there too.

Depends, my instructor said the best way to get a person to watcc YOU instead of the road is ride him. If he's guilty, ride him. If not, let 'er go. You can just tell. I want that ability. It's crazy, he picks out the most regular car and gets 2-5 violations per vehicle. I can't even tell yet.

I didn't know people can get a ticket for that. If someone rides behind me to close I put on my hazardous lights for a little bit.
I keep my foot on the gas and use the other foot just hard enough on the brake to make the brake lights come on.

I strongly advise against doing that. In doing so, you have become an aggressor, if not an instigator, of a potentially uncontrollable chain of events. My advice, move over one lane and make note of the tag. Some people are just a-holes and all the "brake tapping" in the world ain't gonna change that.
Tallon,
I understand where your coming from but on my vehicle the brake lights come on so easily without even braking the care. Just a tiny little tap and they go on. I can even hold them on and not brake. In every case that I do this they DO SLOW down. I know it may be dangerous, but if it saves me from getting rear-ended it helped.

I'd move for a big truck or bus. I want the a-hole in the car or suv to go around me if they want to pass.

I hear ya, we all get pissed at other drivers from time to time. But what happens after your brake tap, when the...
a. tailgater doesn't back off but instead becomes aggressive? Do you want or need that fight? Just move over. He's the a-hole, not you.
b. tailgater sees you tap your brake lights, so he jacks his and loses it into a school bus. I guess you showed him that you're not someone to be fooled with.

What chaps my *** is when people take this approach while they are driving in the passing lane.

Sometimes it's just best to get out of the way... Instigating someone who is already exhibiting aggressive type behavior is most likely just going to up the ante making them more aggressive.

On the highway, the speed limit lane is on the right. The middle lane isn't used for passing to most people. Its used for speeding. Then the left lane is the speed dangerously lane. The passing lane should be going the limit to pass someone going under the limit, ideally.

As one of those "punks" (although I don't know if you could be a punk at mid 30's??) I would say... GET THE HECK OUT OF THE WAY and I won't ride you!

I just ignore the morons. If I am driving the speed limit I am not going to speed to please the nitwit behind me nor am I going to pull over. It really doesn't bother me and if the idiot hits me from behind it is his fault. Can you guess that I hate tailgaters?

Just for the record here, we're talking about Kentucky. The place where I live is narrow winding roads, no left, middle and right lines. I'm not about to pull to the shoulder of the road, just to let some punky a hole continue his destination, when I'm already doing 10-12 mph over the speed limit. Before I pull over and let the little snot pass, I'll drive 35 in a 55, straddling the yellow line so he can't pass, just to piss him!

Just slow well under the limit in a spot where he can pass. It's best to let dumb nuts like that go by.

Personally, everybody in my state goes over the speed limit. I know it, the cops know it, and we all do it. Not to excess like some morons, but literally there are few that actually do the limit when there's no cops around. Now, with that in mind it pisses me off too when some moron rides me or anyone else when they're already going over the limit. I don't do the "brake checks" (e.g. tapping your brake so the light comes on), I just slow down to about 3-5 miles under the speed limit by letting go of the gas a little. ;O)
Now what's really funny -- and I've seen idiots do this waaaayy too many times -- is when one of them rides a fully marked patrol vehicle complete with lightbar. Of course, the LEO moves to the side to let them pass by... Then pulls them over. You know, with people like this, who needs unmarked cars for traffic enforcement? lol
Cheers.

My son said he gets a brick - holds it out the window in plain sight and tosses it behind his car if they don't back off.
My son is a big kidder. He wishes he could do that but never would. I looked in his car and no brick.
THREAD RESURECTION!!!
Anyway, My dad has that new honda ridgeline, and he is out of town for a month and I am driving it around. Yesterday some punk is riding my tail like no other. I was already 10 over the speed limit and he still wanted me to go faster.
Well I remembered my dad telling me about the windshield sprayer. The truck has a seperate spray button for the windshield cleaner, so i just kept hitting the button and the idiot got a taste of wetness of his windshield as the fluid went over the truck and on his windshield! :) he did back off. later he flipped me off, i was satisfied.
