85 while going through texas, Luckily the Officer just got out the Marine Corps and had the same MOS I did, so I got off with only a warning. I did heed that warning though (chances are the next one to pull me over would have just gotten out of the Army or Air Force, then I probably would have been put in jail :D )
I had a 100/50 and he ran. We finally found the vehicle but the river was gone.

95 in a 35. I chased him into another county (tried to assault someone with his vehicle early in the evening) but lost him. Found him two days later. Judge tossed him in jail for 30 days. He is currently in jail in a neighboring county for 2 counts of Burg I and is suspected in a couple of sex assaults.

The fastest I've chased is 154/55 (motorcycle). Why I pulled out I don't even know, but I kept up with him through two cities due to traffic on the interstate. Fastest I've caught is 126/50 (work zone too :D ), another motorcycle. Fastest car was an Acura Integra at 119/55, driver was a 0.19. It's pretty easy though for me to get high speeds as I mostly due traffic enforcement.

SOunds like you need to ask for a Z06 Vette patrol vehicle! I'm sure the Superintendant would approve it ;)

About the fastest I've had in town is 82/40 & 65/25. I've stopped a couple on the freeway between 115-120 for deputies in trucks who couldn't catch up to them. Not too long ago we had a pursuit go through with a bullet bike that was going 160/75, he wasn't caught until he stopped at a gas station about 30 miles from here.

59/25 63/25 95/55 75/35
Though the motorcycle was the fastest... it wasn't really fun b/c he hid for so long, and we got lucky when he popped out.

On a quiet night a friend was running radar and I knew where. I was doing 115 when I entered radar. He about gave birth to a hippopotamus until he saw the lightbar. He sent me a message on the computer that he'd never heard the audio doppler make that noise before. :D

The fastest I ever got someone was 70 mph in a 30 mph zone. He got 5 days in jail. The kicker is his speed was based solely on my visual estimation. No radar, no laser, no pace. I am super cop. A couple of weeks later I pace a guy (with a calibrated cruiser) doing 55 in a 40 mph zone for 2/10ths of a mile. This one gets dismissed. I am not super cop, apparently I suck.

Fastest was 100/65. A few 70 or 65 in 25 zone.
125, but the Trooper was nice and let me go with a VERY stern warning.
I had a tourist at 175km/h in100 km/h zone. Paced for 2 km.
Radar/laser 165km/h / 100.

Ive passed a cop going over 100. Didnt even get a ticket. It might be important to note that I was in Italy driving on the autostrada. From what I saw, unless you wreck, they dont care what you do. Pass on a two lane road up a hill with no shoulders, I saw it. Three cars across driving in two lanes, yep. It seemed like a video game. The state police, Carabineri are a stoic bunch that wear funny hats.
July of 1980 , I had just gotten done transplanting a 440hp engine out of a 1972 Montana Highway Patrol car into my 1970 Dodge cp. I went to I-15 between Great Falls and Helena ( Montana , this is the stretch that you see on the movie " Thunderbolt and Lightfoot". It was middle of the day and super light traffic. I pushed up to at least 110 or so when I came over a rise in the road and there was a trooper out issuing a ticket to a motorist. I had no time to slow down and blew past him having to have caused a tornado like wind.
I quickly went out of site in the mountains and kept my speed up until I saw a black dot in my rearview. I kept watching and the dot got bigger so I backed down to the then 55 limit. He pulled me over , was very intersted in my "new" car and it's power source. He let me sit in the front seat while he ran my info ( no computers). I was a Security Policeman in the USAF at the time and he let me off with a warning.
Some years later when the 55 was repealed, Montana had a " reasonable and prudent" speed limit during the day which was almost an invitation to go as fast as you want as long as you don't hit anyone. The feds clamped down on them and now they have as 75 mph limit which probably isn't enforced until they see 85 or 90 :)

I had a friend of mine I used to work with. He had a Dodge Charger (I believe) and had a huge engine in it (cant remember the size) and he had a ton of modifications to it. Including putting in a State Troopers Transmission out of one of the High Performance cars. He owned a resturant up north and he had a few troopers he was friends with. They patroled a section he drove home on. About an 8 mile stretch of deserted highway at around 1am...
He told me the troopers had a rookie, that was pretty cocky. The rookie claimed that there was no one he couldnt catch with his car. Soo, the other troopers asked my friend to drive that road one night when them and the rookie was doing traffic, and to run that stretch with the throttle full open.
From how he explained it to me, the troopers came back the next day and told my friend that the rookie only saw the streak of the car go by. They clocked him at doing 210mph. And the gun was recently calibrated.
Needless to say the rookie couldnt catch him. :p
**edit to add** My friend done this quite a few years ago.

Circa 1989 or 1990 - Fastest violator was 135+ in a 55 mph zone. He was in a foreign sports car and I was in an 88 Chev Caprice police pkg. He ramped onto the fwy ahead of me and hammered it, sped up until he was pulling away at 135, my speedo was pegged, and we had covered 25 fwy miles in a hurry. I got a timely assist from two deputies in the next county who got on the freeway some 10 miles ahead and got him stopped. As I rolled up, suspect was prone and cuffed, with two smiling county mounties. Now that's service !! Those gentle fwy curves super-elevated for 70-ish speeds felt a lot tighter at triple-digits. It's possible to outdrive your siren, your reactions, your vehicle's limits, and your skill, as I learned that early AM.
Circa 1966 - went thru the NYSP radar (on a tripod) in the NYS Thruway eastbound from Rochester, somewhere west of Syracuse in a 56 Corvette as the speedo was climbing past 95, I kept my foot in it. No patrol car seen, none pulled out. Got close to Stracuse and ran out of gas. Nope, wasn't looking for a Trooper for a gas assist at that time. My excuse: age 19, immortal, and stupid.
CIrca 1963 - Dumbest speeder I saw was a dropout from my high-school, waiting for his draft notice or first term locked up, whichever got him first. He had a 'souped' Dodge hemi (probably just the air cleaner off, and a hole in the muffler). He liked to hit curbside puddles after a rain to soak whoever was on the sidewalks. He had very few fans due to that activity. One spring day he went into the school curcular driveway and smoked his tires past the city PD car that was frequently parked there. He yells "f*** you" to the PD car, but failed to notice it was occupied. He pulled onto the street and lights up his tires again as the PD starts rolling. PD caught up with him after 10+ blocks. This Officer had some class, he returned to the school with the dropout in cuffs for a "victory pass" in front of the students on lunch break outside. They remained at the school until another PD unit came by following the tow truck with dropout's car. Dropout went to jail, and to his future in the Army or the lockup......Quite an impression on the kids.

Only been pulled over once and it was recently. A deputy and trooper had a speed trap setup. There was a flatbed carrying portapottys (sp) going about 25/40 in the left lane. I flew past it in the right lane and I was doing 54/40 when I looked up the road to see a trooper standing in the road waving me over. Oh sh#%! Didn't have my seatbelt on either. The trooper looked at my jacket and seen where I worked and mentioned that he needed to stop in and get his CO2 cylinder filled the next day. He ran my info and let me go with a seatbelt ticket...which was still $91! Oh well...I wear my seatbelt in town now, not for MY safety for my WALLETS safety, lol.
Speed trap? How did they bait you? Did they hide the speed limit signs?
And where I'm from a seat belt violation is $25 and no court cost.

On US 68 in a 1998 Mustang Cobra (brand new) with a friend on our way to grab something to eat in Lexington and try out my new car. I was running in excess of 130 through one of the straight stretches when a KSP trooper turned on me. To this day, I have no clue why I stopped, but I did.
He had his radar locked at 127. All I got was a ticket for failure to produce insurance card.
I maintain it was because he really liked the car. :D

Fastest speeds I've clocked-

Generally anything over 100mph wins a trip to jail, because I work in a very urban area with a lot of traffic.

I received a ticket in Petersburg, VA for 63/35 in a 96 Mustang GT convertable. I actually pulled myself over before the officer had a chance to light up. He was pretty impressed and let me go with a "Speeding 20+" rather than what should have been Reckless.
Those were my stupider days to say the least.

I can say I was with an officer that stopped a guy. He was doing 88/55. Before the officer got out of the car I said watch, he's got a volunteer firefighter plate so he probably thinks your going to let him go. Sure as hell the officer came back to the car to say "yep he said that and gave me a sob story about how he is jobless" lol!

Sorry to bump this old thread
The fastest I've driven is about 100 MPH in a 65, which was a bad idea (oh and stupid)
The fastest I've gone, riding with someone else, was just over 130 in a 65 on the same road (with a CSP trooper.)
I've received a ticket for going 59 in a 45.
Definiately nothing to be proud of. When we were going 130, the Trooper asked if I was scared. I told him I didn't even realize how fast he was going. He said his last rider was crying with their head under the dash when he hit 100. I will say that I had a lot of trust in him since he is a driving instructor at the CSP academy (though things do happen.) Oh well, I signed the liability papers :D
The only time I've been pulled over, I accidently blew a stop sign. I turned out of a gas station and didn't even see it. Realized it was there about half way through it. It was an intersection leading to a freeway and I was hoping no one saw it. Sure enough, I got the disco show. :(
At this point it was pouring rain. The officer asked if I knew there was a stop sign there and I acknowledged I realized it after the fact and apologized. He said "don't do it again" and ran back to his car, guess he didn't want to get too wet. Didn't even ask me for a driver's license.
Otherwise, I don't normally speed. I'm usually the person pissing everyone else off by going 65-70 in a 65. The only time I do speed is when I'm driving down I-5 in the Central Valley, and then it is only about 80-85 in a 70 and that is just so I'm not killed by all of the other drivers. :D
My first was a 92 in a 65 ( by the CHP ), my second was a 90 in a 65 ( also by CHP ), and I was pulled over by the SDPD for 100 in a 15 ( parking lot ). This guy was cool and I sparked up a convo with him about my future plans in LE. He simply said have a nice day and let me go. What do you know, I tried that with the CHP and got sh*t for it both times. Every time I've been pulled over by city/county LEO's ive been let go.

Just because its an empty parking lot doesn't mean that its ok to do something dumb and reckless. Glad you realize it was bad judgement, I wouldn't recommend doing it again.
You deserved the $500 or however much you would have been fined for doing it (if not going to jail as well.) Trying to get out of well deserved punishment by striking up a conversation about "my plans in L.E." shows a lot of immaturity, I highly suggest you get rid of that line of thinking. I got caught doing 40 in a 30 back in 1987. I was going down University Ave. in Champaign, IL (One Way street) and the limit was 30. The only sign posted was at the beginning of the Ave. and it was hidden behind a tree branch. The limit on the two way streets was 35. I was late for a class and figured I'd get by at 5 over. But I got a ticket for 10 over because I didn't see the sign. Went into court and was going to try and explain about the branch covered sign, but all these people ahead of me were giving excuses why they were speeding and I could see that the judge was getting pissed. All the fines were running over $100 and I knew no matter how legitimate my excuse, it wasn't gonna cut it.
So, when it was my turn and the judge asked me what my plea was, I said, "Guilty your honor, and I'm requesting mercy from the court." A very, very slight smile came on his face, then he fined me $10 and I was on my way.

pre-law enforcement era, i got stopped at 115 in 70, the fastest ive clocked, not caught, was something white at 182mph
Fastest ever driven: 145/70mph in the UK. In the US I once tried to catch up to a hit/run car to get it's plate for the police, but when I got to 120 (freeway) I thought better of it. There was no other traffic, but still... As much as it sucked for the victim of the hit/run, it would serve nobody's best interests to cause a new accident trying to get a license #.
Caught 2x in 13 years: 81/65, 51/35.
These days I do freeways at 74/65mph. It seems to best the best compromise between the law and the prevailing traffic speed of about 80-85mph.
Just 2 nights ago....64 in a 30 and he also got another ticket for One Wheel...yes a crotch rocket. He told me that he had just traded for this bike, as it was slower than his last one, and if he would of been on it, he would of been closer to 100. P.S. Dad's a retired LEO

My brother has been on the job for 6 years now and has always been into speeding... and has owned many fast cars. I was in his mustang GT, that had a lot of work done to it. A trooper was on an exit ramp at 3 am on the Long Island Expressway and my brother was thinking that maybe the hoss would just want to keep going his own way and not get involved, but those Nassua County Troopers are hard core I guess! lol We were crusing at 160 for the next mile before my brother saw the lights and pulled over. The trooper scrutinized my brother's NYPD ID and really was acting like he thought my brother may have had fake creds. Upon realization that he was not going to write any tickets and that my brother was really a PO, and (soon finding out that my pops is a Dep. Inspector), he just bs'd about all the work my brother had done on the car and told my brother of the spots up ahead where guys were running radar.
My brother has been caught at many speeds above 125, and although (before he was on the job) my father would have never gotten him out of a ticket, he did have my father's mini badge... so he was never banged.
I on the other hand.... have been stopped at most for a mere 79 in a 55 (I am an NYPD Au and NYPD cadet... along with pop's and bro's mini badge) so I have never been written up.
A buddy of mine was written up for the following:
1) no seatbelt
2) wreckless driving
3) lane change w/o signal
4) illegal tins
5) illegal covering of Liscence plate
6) obstruction of view (2 seperate tickets)
8) 103 in a 65
...this was on the NY thruway.... yeah, he got banged pretty damn good!

I was doing 94 in a 65.. Officer told me he would have a hard time restraining himself if he had the same car as me, and told me he didn't see any reason to punish me so he wrote the ticket for 84mph so I could take defensive driving.
btw.. I just sold that car today.. couldn't handle the 477 a month payment. .ouch!

Lets re-word your post in another thread to fit this situation. Instead of discretion being extended towards a profession which you had such a problem with it was extended because of the car you were driving.
I for one am quite offended by the fact that you would pick and choose whom to issue a ticket to based upon the car they drive. Not only is this unethical and immoral, it goes against your pledge. I'm actually quite disgusted you would even post something like this.. It's just wrong.
"....Relentlessly uphold the law, with compassion...." BTW compassion doesnt mean letting off certain people but not others.. It truly bothers me you even consider this ethical.
Maybe you should pay the fine for 94 MPH then instead of accepting this obviously immoral officer's reduction of your ticket?

Valor, take a chill pill. Stop taking stabs at me. Is that acceptable behavior at your PD? It certainly wasn't at mine.
I got a ticket, didn't I? I didn't ask to get the ticket reduced, nor did I expect it. I'm not going to argue with him..
You missed the point entirely.. just give it up. Once again, your negativity is not appreciated, nor warranted.

It is possible to use your discretion in an immoral way.. Letting your friends go, not arresting your brother or his gang banging friends..
How about I make a list of family members I won't ticket.. Hey, I'm just using my discretion.

Try telling that to a normal citizen.. "I'll give your mom a ticket, but not mine." See how ethical that citizen thinks it is.
"Normal" citizens, like you, would more accurately be referred to as ignorant citizens. Ignorant citizens have no idea how we do our job, why we do our job, or how the legal system is set up and structured for us to do our jobs. The only people I know ignorant enough to proclaim that they'd write their own mothers speeding tickets are ignorant citizens with no such knowledge as I've discussed here. But I guarantdamntee if I actually put you in a position to issue your own mother a ticket you wouldn't. If you did you are as stupid as you are ignorant. Nobody in this legal system has ever expected or trained police to write their own mothers speeding tickets. No judge would expect that of us. The system has intentionally granted police discretion in order to avoid the police state that would occur if we stopped every traffic violation we witnessed and issued a ticket for it. Outside of racism there is no way that anyone, even you, can claim using discretion is unethical or immoral. While you may feel the need to be a prick and use discretion to write your own mother there is no way you can foist that point of view on other cops. Discretion allows you to be an idiot and ticket your mother but it allows me to keep my family holidays peaceful by not writing mine. It isn't a matter of ethics or morality no matter how much you stomp your feet and say it.

Fastest I ever got was 62 in a 40.... pretty decent since the highest speed limit in my town is 45.

Ok, I've read this whole thread and I've got two things to say:
1) p0licedispatch just doesn't get it, and never will. I doubt he/she/it will get beyond the oral boards, and
2)Why cut old people breaks? Old people are BAD DRIVERS! (yes, of course not all, just most). It is a statistical fact that you drive better in the six months following a traffic citation - and these old people need that help.
But maybe I'm the only one that feels that way

OK, since no one here is gonna take the bait, I'll do it.
On this site there is a feature called "rep", which is similar in scope to real world reputation. If you post something informative, insightful, or witty people have the option of "repping" you with good rep points.
Alternately, post something misleading, ignorant, arrogant, or offensive and you will get BAD rep points (which are negative). The more good reputation someone has, the more weight the rep they give carries.
There is a rep indicator in the top left-hand side of your post box. Get more negatives than positives, your meter goes red.
I have never gotton negative repped, not because I agree with everyone, but because my posts are well thought-out, respectful, and give due regard to LEO status (also indicated in the top right of the post box).
You have pissed off some people who's reputation carries significant weight by your ignorant and inflammatory posts. You have a LARGE bright red bar.

Ok, Well, I'm still a rookie, so I have haven't seen to much on ts's. And I'm not yet verified here, but since it is letting me reply I will. The fastest I've seen has been a measly 77 in a 55. And the fastest I've ever been caught speeding was 84 in a 70. I wish I could say it was back when I was a kid but.....I still am a kid. That's the only ticket I've gotten though (and only time I've been stopped).

Well, I have a new personal best. It's 80 in a 55. Funny story too, I nearly stopped a sheriff's dept. investigator, along with that car. I was SB, he and the violator were NB on the highway. I had a read of 80, and I saw those two driving along side eachother, and wasn't sure which one it was. But then the violator (a white car) blew by the Inv. (in a blue SUV). I turned, to try and catch up to the white car. When I caught up to her, the blue SUV was on her bumper, I looked down and was pacing them at 80 mph. I thought "Hell....I'm gonna try and take 'em both". As soon as I hit my lights, he did too, and my jaw dropped to the floor. We got her stopped (after about 1/2 mile) and asked her why she was going so fast. She claimed she didn't realize it. (Riiiiight...) She said she was 16, and just got her license 3 mos. prior. To bad, so sad.

I was doing stationary radar and a motorcycle approached from the front, traveling at 90 MPH and still climbing. As he went by me at 96 MPH (in a 25 zone) I turned on my lights to see if he would slow down.
I saw his helmet swivel my way, then swivel back, and then I saw him bury the throttle. I just shut the lights off and didn’t even put the car in gear.
About sixty seconds later I figured I ought to drive the length of the road until I got to the next town line (about three miles away) just to make sure he wasn't off the road somewhere embedded in a tree. I didn’t find him.
The fastest I’ve ever actually caught was 88 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. He got hooked up for reckless driving (http://www.cga.ct.gov/2005/pub/Chap248.htm#Sec14-222.htm).

Well I have gotten many of tickets over time but thanks to the laws here in MA I have only had to pay 3 of them. I fight all my tickets when I can. I got stop for going 45/30 and the officer never gave me a ticket (so I thought). I got stopped about 6 months later and found out I had an unpaid ticket. The officer check given in hand. In MA you don't sign saying you recieved the ticket. To late to fight that one. I did manage to get out of a ticket for speeding down I-495. The "Smokey" (MSP) didn't have me on radar and told me I had my 1990 Honda Prelude Si doing 100/65 which wasn't true I was going closer to 130 but thats neither her nor there. The officer said he would write the ticket at 90/65. Nice guy as he was I wasn't gonna pay that ticket so i fought it and I got found "Not Responsable" for the offence.

Don't they always....
CSP had a chase a couple months ago where there were two motorcycles in excess of 160. Our policy states that we don't chase bikes, but we do set up and block intersections for the publics safety... Any ways I locked one of the bikes at 171 mph through an intersection. Long and short is, CSP caught one guy and the second guy crashed and wasn't found til the next day, off the side of the road.

Just as a ride-a-long this past Sat. night, we pulled over a lady doing 56 in a 35. When I was stationed at Langley AFB, Virginia, there was a cocky young kid in a Camaro who liked to speed out the gates and gun it just as he left our jurisdiction (or so he thought). We have guys walking around near the gates searching vehicles and what not, so the speed limit is 25 leaving and 15 coming in. One day, one of our gate guards called and said the camaro just left the gate. I went to the gate, parked my patrol car off to the side, and stood at the gate with a hand held. Sure enough he came back doing
48/15. Turns out his DL was suspended for failing to pay a fine he got from VSP.
His excuse: He thought we couldn't do anything since he was outside the gate.
One of our guys stopped a guy doing 77/25 while leaving that same gate. His excuse was he was missing the Super Bowl!!
P.S. Needless to say, we MP/SP's get pretty bored.
65/35 and then later 120/55
Both were VA. State Police vehicles (same one as a matter of fact) and yes they were going to calls.
At 120 mph, a plain white unmarked Impala with it's lights and siren operating is hard to see. All I seen was a white streak and a half second later I heard the siren.

Tone goes off for 55mph vehicle, I look up and see the traffic court judge passing me......I wave, he returns the wave. As I am putting my hand down, the radar goes off with an ungodly squeal....105 mph.......woohoooo the chase is on. Square body Caprice is after a Mustang 5.0............took about 1 1/2 to 2 miles to catch him. Idiot just bought the car and was "trying" it out..........risked going to jail and losing his CDL. I wrote him for speeding only.....and not reckless(thats a helluva break for him). Told him (laughing at same time) he may want to pre-pay the ticket.....because the one car he did pass was the judge that would hear the case. On court date, there was a substitute judge on the bench.....idiot plead not guilty....was found guilty with a healthy fine, judge said I should have locked him up.
I highly doubt this. It would take alot of power (700whp+), the proper gearing, serious suspension work, the car would have to be gutted, have a fiberglass shell with the proper aerodynamics, etc.

Many years back, going over to see my girlfriend (who is now my wife) got on the freeway and as I'm entering this white CV whips by me with two young kids in it. Now, I'm not so stupid that I don't know that LEO's use CV's, but this one was filled with what looked to be 2 teens or early 20's guys, and had out of state plates. So, I'm in my new Mustang Cobra and I punch it, thinking race is on. We head through a great turn from one freeway onto another, then there's a semi in my lane and dude is still right next to me in the left. I drop two gears, floor it, get in front of him just shy of the truck and pass the truck. This guy is right on me, so I figure as soon as I pass the truck, race is over -- besides, I've got to get off at the next exit and I've got to get slowed down. Past the truck I get into the right lane thinking the kids will whip past gloating about how they beat a Cobra in their daddy's car. Instead, the CV gets right in behind me and on come the grill lights and the brights start blinking.
I pull over thinking that this out-of-state cop is going to pull me over, finally glancing at my speedo and it's coming down through 125. Get stopped on the side of the road and put my window down to hear "Get your hands on the steering wheel!" Did as I was told, still not too worried, until up comes the guy, in khakis and a hawaiin shirt, with his badge hanging around his neck. I see, with the most horrific sinking feeling, that he is a Deputy Sheriff of THAT COUNTY! Give him the paperwork, answer MANY questions about what I did and what my Commanding Officer would think if I got arrested for Reckless (he would NOT have been happy...), get the papers back and he walks away with a very stern verbal, no ticket issued.
During this time I noticed another car stopped on the other side of the freeway up a bit. When the Deputy and his partner pulled away, that car followed. And wouldn't you know it, they were going almost the same place as me? I ended up having to follow them (at the posted speed limit mind you) almost to my girlfriends house. I think they may have been going to some kind of undercover bust.
I wonder how hard they laughed about that later...

P.S. I have DEFINITELY matured since then and drive much more sane now, especially since I have a family and a 13 year old daughter!

One night, as an ignorant 17 year old, I was on a two lane highway and I had the needle buried past 130mph with my ratty old 1980 primer black Camaro. I had five close friends with me. The car felt as if it was going to rattle itself apart. It was still accelerating, when I finally chickened out and slowed it down. Then the very next morning as I was pulling out of my driveway, the driver’s side outer tie rod broke loose. What a wake up call that was! Needless to say I never did crazy stuff like that ever again. Then one week later, the rear leaf springs rotted through the floor and the car was junked.
The fastest I was ever stopped for was 75mph in a 30mph in the same car when I was 16. I punched it as I pulled out of a 7 Eleven. I watched a pair of headlights in my rearview mirror get smaller and smaller. Then they got closer and closer. Then suddenly they began flashing. “Uh-oh:eek: ” I thought to myself. When the Officer returned to my car after getting my license, he asked me why I got going so fast. I replied “I was just testing out my new Holley carburetor.” He said “Seems to be working just fine.” as he handed me my ticket for 20 over. At least I caught a break.:)
for me, highest was 96/65, but was written as 94 :(.
Needless to say, i got a yelling at, a lawyer, and a fat court cost + attorney fee cost, made me learn my lesson (got it eventually dismissed though, <3 volunteering in the past and dd course).

I concur. The fastest i've ever seen officially documented was in the 180's by a motorcycle.

Got stopped on I95 in Northern VA for going 94/55 State Trooper let me off with a warning.
No more then two weeks later I got stopped for 97/35 at 3:30am on the George Washington Parkway in all honesty I believe I was going much faster possibly over 105/35. Saw the officer and stopped he didnt even have to move on me I stopped right infront of his cruser. Didnt take me to jail and court fine was $500.
Two days later in the Washington Post a 350Z was caught going 126mph on the GW Parkway law student was arrested and spent 12 days in jail and was fined $1,000+
And Finally while on I-95S took the mustang to 135/65 passed a State Trooper.... saw his tail lights light up (brakes) saw his reverse lights and him start to turnout and then saw him put it back in park.. took the next exit parked my car in my friends garage and stayed at her place for the night...
Needless to say because of career/money/family/friends/desire to keep car I have slowed down a whole lot. I learned my lesson and it was a hard one....

Now, how in the heck do people get away with stuff like this from the VASP? I lived in VA for 18 years before moving to TN, and never ONCE was I EVER let off by a Trooper... Lucky punk. lol.
Highest I was ever written for was 96 in a 65 on the Ohio Turnpike. OHP got me on laser and had a huge grin when he told me how he loved writing people tickets when they had radar detectors... :o ah well...
Back to VASP - I was pulled one morning on I95 somewhere south of the Beltway for 82 in a 60. Young trooper, couldn't have been much older than me at the time (22) in an unmarked Impala (and I mean unmarked... no outside anteanne, no LEDs in the back window, nothing.) came flying up on me and then proceded to tell me I needed a CDL to drive my truck. (2005 F450 Dynamic Wrecker unloaded, LOL) Needless to say, I was as polite as I could be, and I tried hard as heck not to laugh when I informed him that I'd never heard of that before. As it was, he wrote me the full 82/60 Reckless (as is the standard in VA for 20+ or anything above 80mph) and then let me go on my merry way.
So back to the original question... How the heck can someone get off for a 94/55??? I swear, I had the worst luck sometimes when I was younger.

Not my fastest BUT my fastest Greyhound bus. 76/55...he was rollin!!!!
He was decent so I wrote him for 74/55 so it wouldn't be as many points and not be reckless driving.

I was in the Army at the time in Georgia for BNCOC. It was September 13th, 2001. I got recalled back to Fort Bragg. So I was trying to get back as fast as possible. South Carolina Trooper clocked me doing 97 in a 70 and cited me. Go figure.. h
Years ago as a Police Explorer the officer and I were sitting in a church parking lot running radar. A Bug flew past us at 69/45. Tom pulled out with his lights going; driver blew the light at the intersection and went westbound, blacking out as he pulled into an office complex.
We found the vhicle in the complex with both doors open and a passenger trying to get out of the back seat. I think I might have seen someone hopping a back wall, but not sure. I knew the passenger we caught from high school as we had run track together, but he wasn't talking. As we processed the vehicle and waited for the wrecker dispatch called to say that the neighboring jurisdiction had two people at a nearby gas station reporting the car stolen. We drove over and met up with them and sure enough, it was the people I saw go over the wall. It was a time for reunions: I ran track with the driver too.
We wrote him 9 cites for the 3/4 mile chase (speed, evading, reckless, being too stupid to live, etc) and the other agency wrote for false reporting. This may not have been the fastest I was ever in on, but it stands out the most. He ended up with $5,000 in fines from our court that I hope he never paid. See, about a month after our community weekly did the court reporting section about him and his fines, he was killed playing chicken with a freight train (no vehicle involved).

I am not super cop, apparently I suck.
haha you're kidding right?
unless you have radar implanted in your eyeball like robocop I seriously doubt that a judge would ever have allowed a "visual estimation". Kinda like an officers special X-Ray vision "seeing" the drugs through the trunk of the vehicle. haha
Actually, I was told as a Police Explorer that certification to run radar required the officer be able to visually estimate the speed to within a mile without use of radar first. Granted, that was many moons ago, but I do not believe the requirements would have changed overly much. Eliminating that requirement runs the risk of making the officer overly dependant on technology.

If you had ever attended a RADAR class you would learn that part of our training IS the "Visual Estimation" of speed. It is not very difficult, and my estimations WILL be within a couple of miles per hour of the speed displayed by RADAR or Laser. (Part of the training is documented and we must estimate the speed of 50 cars in a row, while stationary on the side of the road and while driving in our own car.)
I don't know what part of the country you are in, but our estimations will hold up in court.

APDSarge- I live in Illinois, a "visual estimation" other than a guy going 160 MPH in a 20 MPH School Zone (blatently obvious) is thrown out of court faster than you could blink an eye.
It's been argued in other states as well, unless its blatently obvious then 95 percent of the time it is thrown out, at least in my experience :D

Dangit, our omniscient troll was banned before I could hit him with red.
I've had several speeding tickets hold up in court based upon my visual estimation alone. It helps that I always bring in the documentation from my radar and laser classes showing that I have visually estimated the speed of 90 vehicles with an instructor and my average error is under 2mph.

Sorry for the necro but I'm jsut trying to go over all the stuff I missed while overseas and I couldn't pass this one up. :D
I was riding with my brother one night while I was home on leave, which is strange in and of itself but not important to the story. He's a deputy btw, we were heading back into town and he clocked a car at 117. There were two cars on the other side of the highway, a Camaro and a Crown Vic. He got turned around and caught up to them.
At this point the Camaro is pacing the CV at a calm 55 mph. Hmm, gosh which one could've it been. The elderly couple in their CV? Or the 3 young males in the newer Camaro... it boggles the mind.
Needless to say my brother is smart enough to know that if they had decided to fight the ticket based on the prescence of the other car, and the fact our judges tend to be really, really weak, they would've gotten it thrown out. So he didn't even bother pulling them over, yeah he was angry about that one.
Next one, and this one makes me angry, 5amish, I'm riding with a newer officer in the city and he clocks this kid going 89 in a 25. I'm kinda salivating over it. He's 17 heading out to go hunting. He was given a warning... I can understand writing it lower but only giving a warning?!? That irritated me.
As for me personally, I got pulled over doing 52 in a 25. The officer was kind enough to bump it to 52 in a 40. I was 16 and stupid, I paid the ticket and moved on.
About a week after I pcs'd to where I am now, also my home town, I had blown a headlight. I bought a new one, replaced it and took the car for a drive to make sure the headlight was correctly aligned. They were sitting low and I just took the opportunity to adjust them.
I'd forgotten our bypass was a 55 and not a 70 like the road I had just come off. Doh! Hi I'm a dumbass, let me just sign that ticket for you. I think I confused the trooper when I asked him if my headlights blinded him as he was driving my direction
The one I absoultely should've gone to jail for... :(
A little history before the story. For a while while I was stationed in Idaho I suffered from some sleep problems and minor depression, which caused me to be late for work multiple times. I'd alredy gotten and LOR and was told the next step was an Art. 15. Not only was I screwing up at work I was about to screw up big time on the highway, trying to avoid being late.
By the time he got me pulled over I was 100 feet from the base gate. My insurance was current, but the card I had wasn't. So now here I am, clocked at 121 (strike one) and appearing to not have insurance (strike two). Yeah I was freaking out, scared to death and trying to prepare to get an Art. 15 and go to jail. I was sure I had just destroyed my plans of LE after I got out.
The ISP talked to me for a few minutes, asked me why I was going so fast and what was going on. Turns out his wife is active duty at the same base, no, I didn't know her. He hands me my information and tells me to make sure I get the new card in my car, slow down and get my *** to work.
I nearly had a heart attack as he walked back to his cruiser, I actually started tearing up. I wanted to hug that guy. He literally saved my life by not arresting me or writing me a ticket.
After that, no matter how late I'm going to be, I just call. and still drive the speed limit. I think the fastest I've gone after that experience was 84 in a 75. Never got pulled over for that. And now 2 or 3 over the limit is as much as I will speed now. Unless neccessary.
As for the most ridiculous, I got a ticket for a 75 in a 70. I was not impressed with that one, I wasn't disrespectful or rude just angry. I honestly don't know a single cop who would even look at you if you're only going 5 over.
Living here in Arkansas we don't have that much of an issue with speeders as bigger cities do where the "racing scene" is much more popular.
For the record I am not an officer of the law but have several friends and family members whom are.
Anywho, the fastest I've been pulled over for was 87 in a 70. Going down I-40 from Conway, Arkansas heading to work (which is in Little Rock) at 7:30a.m. I was in the right lane and the soccer mother in her mega tank Ford Excursion was going 60 in front of me. Being that I'm in my 05 Acura Type-S I didn't take kindly to the fact that she was going below the speed limit. So I (calmly) got in the fast lane (It's a two lane highway) with blinker and all, and accelerated. Typically I'm always in my rearview mirror when I decide to speed. But this day I wasn't. When I got in the fast lane there was no cruiser in my driver side mirror. As I'm about to get back in the slow lane I have a cruiser on my rear bumper. Knowing that I was at a point where I couldn't "slow down" before he got up on me to turn his radar on. (as this part of the highway it curves to the left) I went about my 87mph and got over in the slow lane. Of course he followed. I backed it down to 70 without using the brakes and at that time he pulled me over. When he asked me do you know why I pulled you over.... I replied with a no sir. He said cause you were speeding son. (Being that I'm 24 and look 32 I assume I must resemble his children in some way:rolleyes:) And said "I see". He asked if there was a reason I was in a hurry. I replied with a no sir. I simply saw you come up on me while I was in the fast lane so being that I have friends and family in the police force I've heard of all the horror stories about "civilians" not exceeding the speed limit in the fast lane when they are behind them for they're in fear of getting pulled over... When in actuallity all they (the officers) want to do is get around them and get to their destination. Seeing you coming up on me I felt that I would accelerate a little more to get around that SUV that I was right next to so you could get around me quicker. He looked at me with one of these  smirks and said you're a smart one. I can't give you a ticket for that kinda explanation. Slow down next time and don't be in such a hurry.
So he could see right through my B.S. but none the less he let me off. Which I was very fortunate for cause at that time I was in between insurance companies.
... I replied with a no sir. I've been shot doing 70 in a 45, although he must have gotten me late because I was doing 90-95 before I noticed the Durango Headlights coming up fast in my rear-view. (That's the SUV the local PD uses. Luckily the officer knew of my career path and it was lowered to a failure to obey a traffic device in court :D The fastest I've ever gone outright was 135 in a 45 in my Saab 900, back when I had just gotten my license and had a deathwish. Very true. Around here though, the police (for the most part) give you a 10 mph, 15 if you're lucky, leeway. And I'm not talking about doing ten to fifteen over in a 25 or a 30, I mean in a 45, 55, or 65:) I'm not that ridiculous. Yes, I'm in the wrong, but then isn't it wrong for deputies to go speeding around in the early morning to make up for lost mileage while they were sleeping?? And no, I'm not kidding I've seen them sleeping.

I had to do a double take on the vehicle to make sure my visual estimation of speed was correct with the radar speed. Had one that I lost tonight doing 100 in a 70, in the same spot. I found some good stuff out of that place on the interstate.

I've gotten a few motorcycles at 100+. Some stopped, some didn't. Can't say I've ever gotten a four-wheeled vehicle over 100, but plenty of my co-workers have.
When I was young and stupid, I myself was going 104 in a 55. I know this because my fuel cut-off on that particular vehicle was 104.5. Trooper stopped me and told me he got me on RADAR at 93, suffice to say I didn't argue. Anyway, I was a volunteer firefighter and I think that was what helped me out. He wrote me for 74/55 and I mailed it in.
When I was even younger, yet still just as stupid, I got stopped for 66/35 running late from my lunch hour at my high school job. I think the fire department saved my *** on that one too, since I got a "failure to obey traffic control device" ticket instead of a speeding ticket.
I wonder what both of these cops would think if they knew I was on the job now. I'm sure they're both retired by now.
