WEIR- A routine traffic stop turned deadly Friday night when French Camp Police Chief Anthony Lucas was killed by a 16-year old who now faces
capital murder charges in Choctaw County.
Christopher Fair, 16, of Weir was arrested in connection with the shooting, which occurred at about 10:15 p.m.
Warren Strain, spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, said Lucas, 32, who was the part time chief in French Camp, had joined other Choctaw County law officers in the pursuit of a car authorities were trying to stop for "equipment violations."
The car stopped at the house in Weir where Fair lives and the four people inside the car jumped out with three running inside the house and one running down the road, Strain said. As Lucas walked toward the house, Fair allegedly came out and shot him with a shotgun, authorities said.
No other officers were injured.
Lucas worked as a parole officer for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The other three people in the car were questioned but not charged.
Lucas is survived by his wife and 5-year old son.
