Has anyone heard of this?
Replacing CS spray with a more effective incapacitant could cut assaults on officers in Leicestershire by more than a third, according to the force.
Captor spray, which is being rolled out across the force, can be used it in situations where CS Spray cannot be deployed, such as crowds and inside vehicles. The risk of cross contamination is also thought to be low.
Leicestershire Constabulary believes its introduction could lead to a 39 per cent reduction in assaults on officers.
David Lindley, deputy chief constable said: “Extensive testing has shown Captor to be a much more effective and versatile incapacitant than CS spray and we are confident that we will see the number of attacks on officers fall significantly when it is introduced.
“Captor will be effective in incapacitating a violent person in 94 per cent of cases compared to an effectiveness rate of between 52 per cent and 60 per cent.”
The force said Captor, which contains Nonivamide used in food and in pain relief creams, does not have any side effects.
Stan Sexton, principle health and safety advisor to Leicestershire Constabulary, said: “We believe it is a much safer and more effective alternative that will improve officer protection and personal safety.”
Sussex, North Wales and Northamptonshire police have already switched to Captor and it is used extensively by police forces in Europe.
Captor spray? Never heard of it. Is that similar to OC Spray?

Nonivamide, is used by the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Nonivamide is a structural analogue of Capsaicin and can be found in natural Chile Pepper species. Produced under strict cGMP conditions, Nonivamide is available in reproducible quality and consistent pungency.

It's a weak solution. It's seems to me the more we spray our "regulars" the less the C.S. affects them.

I know I would rather take the CS I was exposed to in the military over the OC I carry every day. You can get through the CS pretty easily, but the OC takes quite a bit more effort. That is, if we're talking about the same 'CS'.

It is the same C.S. however not as concentrated.
Alot of the scrotes seem to be building up a tolorance to CS.

Speaking of OC...has anyone else used the OC streamer from Pepperball? That's what I carry now and that stuff is rediculously hot. Gimme standard OC anyday but keep Pepperball off of me.

I'd like a Taser, our Armed Response Vehicle is now carrying the M26 but not us ordinary street cops.

I would love a taser. But the government over here doesn't want to spend the money on arming 15500 cops with tasers plus the cost of training. Our union has implemented trials but it willl be a while before we get them. I hear excellent things about them. Our SWAT team guys carry them but thats about it.
By the way officver who do carry them do you carry them on your duty belt or a thigh holster?
Cheers
Heres an interesting read about OC. It's an independant study done a few years ago.

I don't know how ANYONE can resist OC. When I did my training and got sprayed, I was down and out for 40min my Corp. said. He was almost empty, and gave me a light burst, by reaction I closed my eyes... not too bad I thought, light burn. "Oh yea? Open your eyes..." I hit the ground in pain.
I use it, and pray to god that I don't get contaminated as well!!
But I can't get over how it just doesn't work on some people!!

I sprayed it on buffalo wings and ate them. Very spicey.
HAH. Hardcore.... was that with OC spray, or another form or pepper/tear spray?
I swallowed a drop (stupid me) of OC, nose plugged instantly, and the throat felt like it was going to seal shut.
uuguguguguhgh it's painful just thinking about it!

That study was from 1997 and their scientific methodology was pretty lacking.
Granted it is from '97, but human reaction to Oleoresin Capsicum hasn't evolved in these few years.
It's not the best study out there, but it's something to think about...
The reports are taken from Police Occourance reports so it does hold some practicle value.

It was capstun spray. The guy we dared to eat it puked after a couple, I finished off the dozen. They were actually pretty good.
Sounds like somebody is trying to avoid arming you guys over there.
Hell they've been doing that for best part of a century!!
Personally I dislike the use of CS/OC in most circumstances for the reasons noted in that article. It is not guaranteed to take down your suspect however it is likely to effect you or your colleagues, not only giving your "non-effected" suspect time to escape but also to do you some serious harm at the same time.
Personally CS seems to effect me pretty badly so I have never discharged it regardless of circumstances in the knowledge that I'm likely to be effected worse than the guy I'm spraying it at!!
Have you guys had any issues with the use of tazer when CS has been deployed? We're told that the solvent in CS is flammable and therefore if you spray them then tazer them you can ignite your suspect!! :D
