I wrote one up yesterday who's tags had expired in August 2003. That beat my previous record of December 2003. Do you guys have a record of the length of an expired tag? Let's see who wins. :D

In about 96 we had a deputy arrest a driver who had his drivers license expire in 1973. He was valid, never had a ticket and just let his license expire. He ended up getting caught for a DUI. The deputy asked him why he didn't have a valid license...his answer "I haven't found time to get to the BMV, I've been pretty busy".

I've had a couple that were about 3 years old. One that was 4 years old. I didn't notice until after I'd stopped him because my state rotates through expiration year colors, and it was the same color as the current year.

How about top fine for expired ?? In PA, if the reg is over 60 days expired, the fine is TWICE what the PA reg fee would be for that type of vehicle. For a 80,000 lb truck the annual fee is $1687.50 . I had a VA truck that was over a year expired last summer. $1687.50 x2= $3375.00 plus costs for a total of $3,445.00 And than he had to call his girlfriend in VA to go and renew the tags in VA and fax proof before he couild leave. ( Another $700 ) .

eh, our fine is the same whether one day or ten years.... $50 + $100 Cost of Court.

Have you ever had anyone that made their own renewal sticker? I had one guy from Ohio that made his own and scotch-taped it onto his plate. He did a pretty crappy job. The only reason I noticed was because the ink was running.

Lol, I had one of those a couple months ago. Ended up being an illegal alien with meth and a gun too.

Popped a guy with 8 year old New Jersey tags. Said i was the first one to ever stop him.

Inspected a boat where the owner ( of a $310K sailboat) had done a screen print of the current tag off the Parks and Wildlife website and taped it to the side of the hull. He hadn't bothered to pay a lousy 40 dollar registration fee since 1997.

Shame he printed the orange and white sticker out in black/gray.:D

Damn! I thought mine was long. TN does not require front tags or front winshield stickers. I'm glad...less for us to look for. I'm still lookin for an altered Temporary tag. Those tags are done either by printer or by sharpie marker. Some people try to alter the number to extend the temporary tag. A lot of people do not realize it's a felony to alter temp tag, handicap permit, or anything else issued by DOT. ;)

I had one who wrote her own inspection sticker (VA for anyone who know what they look like). It was a white 3X5 notecard with "This inspection sticker is valid indefinitely" written on it in red marker.

I think my best expired tag was about two years. However, I did have a guy once melt down some wax, put it on his tag where the expiration sticker would go, and then carve out the pertinent information.
Had to give him credit for ingenuity...just before I hooked him and his car! :D

You tow for an expired tag?

Insurance here, yes. Dead tag? It would have to be a couple years!

16 months expired qualifies as an unregistered auto here. In Maryland, the fine would have been $275.00 on top of the tow. But here in VA, it was only $70.00

Don't feel too bad for the lady. The car was a 2000 Mercedes Benz. (And she has three more cars at home.)

Yeah, screw her! :o

We'd get reamed if we added a $125 tow bill on top of the $150 ticket. Welcome to Dare County :)

We'll pull and tow for Insurance and Fictitious. We don't have the emissions testing thank goodness.
