I'm miserable. :( My lungs hurt and I'm beyond frustration. With the weather change, my asthma is flaring up big time. I've had enough Albuterol and Ipratropium in me to last a year, and I still can't keep my lungs open. I have a small, compact nebulizer I've been taking with me to work, and the bigger, heavy Devilbiss that I use at home.

I've had this all my life and I usually have a very good handle on it, but the past week it's been a rough road. I'm trying to avoid taking Prednisone (steroids), but I know I'm at that point where I have to call the doc.

I'm just curious if anyone here suffers from asthma and/or allergies. When is the worst season for you? How bad do you get allergies/ashtma? For you asthma sufferers, is it sports induced? What triggers cause flare-ups for you? What kind of meds do you take for it? For any of you PO's that have it, does it ever interfere with your job?

Ok, my pity party is over. Thanks for listening to me ***** and whine. :o

I have asthma and allergies. I don't really seem to have a "worst" season for either, they just flare up when they want to. For my asthma, I take salbutamol which is used whenever I feel "asthmatic"...and I take QVAR for preventative reasons (don't know if it works).

Did a quick search, saw the key word (beclomethasone) and yes, it should do the trick. It's to help keeping the swelling down in the lungs. It's an inhaled steroid.

My son is suffering right now with his asthma. His is sports induced as well as he has allergies. :( Hope you are feeling better soon, Katey. And everyone else affected.

Dayna,

I really hope your son is feeling better. And I sincerely hope that anyone who does have asthma does not take it lightly. I was just released from the hospital and I can tell you it sucks. I went in Sunday night because I just could not keep my airways open and I know I needed serious help. They admitted me about 3:30 that morning and I begged to go home today (if I didn't feel any better, I would definitely have stayed).

Please let me know how your son's doing since you last posted.

rudegyal,

I wish you'd consider quitting the cancer sticks. I won't preach - I know you know that smoking and asthma don't mix, but just think about it for your own health.

i had them real bad (allergies and allergic asthma) from age 3 until about 17 or 18. After that, the symptoms have been getting less severe as I get older (currently 30). They are worst in the spring and fall when pollen levels are highest - ragweed, tree pollen, etc. In the mornings when I wake up I find the nasal symptoms are at their worst (typically), and in the evenings the heavy chest, and itchiness is worst.

I use an inhaler only when I need it & I'm on Zyrtec-D. I also keep my Afrin SEVERE Congestion w/ me at all times. Otherwise, I'm stuffed up & miserable too. I feel your pain.
