58-year-old Issac Veal was thinking about retiring at the end of the year - but now he's the 39th Honolulu police officer killed in the line of duty. Veal died Monday night while driving on the H-2 freeway en route to an emergency call. Veal lost control of his vehicle and overturned. The crash ended Veal's distinguished 25 year career. "Officer Veal's personnel file contains numerous thank you's from stranded motorists, burglary and theft victims, In more than two decades of service, Veal accumulated a wide array of experience in the Honolulu Police Department. He served as a patrol officer in central and east Honolulu.
He was also a traffic investigator and a solo bike officer. But it was patrolling Oahu highways where Veal made his name as one of the best in the department. "He was one of the top getters in terms of traffic enforcement. He really believed in that, believed in keeping the community safe, The investigation into the crash continues. Police say it's unclear how fast Veal was driving at the time. It's also unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt. He is survived by his wife and family.
