Okay, didn't know we had an equipment review section here. This was originally posted in GT1, then I guess it got moved to All Other Equipment in the public area. For some reason, new posts and replies are not allowed there, maybe I will have better luck here. Sorry for the crosspost...
So I got my uniforms last week. I was issued a used vest that is in excellent shape. It is a Protective Products, Int'l. vest, level II, and is the Phantom Armor Lite II model. The phantom vests (according to the company's website) offers comprehensive side panel protection with the rear and front panels meeting and slightly overlapping on the side. It feel comfortable, but a little hot lol. It extends down my torso to about 1-2" above my duty belt. I was told this gap is normal, is is preferred for better mobility. Any bigger gap would be dangerous, and anything smaller might cause the vest to ride up toward my neck.
The panels are labeled as being manufactured in March of 03...not bad. they are only a little over a year old. All in all, I am pretty satisfied with it. Anyone have any experiences with this brand?
Here is the SITE (http://body-armor.com/vest_style_display.php?style=2&). My carrier seems to be an older style, with a six point system, and rahter than the two large straps on the side, I have two 2" wide straps per side. It actually looks JUST LIKE Deputy Junior's vest on Reno, lol. Dunno if that's a good thing lol. The carrier seems older, but the panels are nonetheless stamped Mar 03. Oh, it also has a front trauma plate, and I can obtain a rear one if needed at the department. Any thoughts?
