I got this one from my Dad when I was just first getting into LE. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :)

I WANT TO TELL YOU LIES

I want to tell that little boy his Mom will be just fine
I want to tell that dad we got his daughter out in time
I want to tell that wife her husband will be home tonight
I don't want to tell it like it is, I want to tell them lies

You didn't put their seat belts on, you feel you killed your kids
I want to say you didn't ... but in a way, you did
You pound your fists into my chest, you're hurting so inside
I want to say you'll be OK, I want to tell you lies

You left chemicals within his reach and now it's in his eyes
I want to say your son will see, not tell you he'll be blind
You ask me if he'll be OK, with pleading in your eyes
I want to say that yes he will, I want to tell you lies

I can see you're crying as your life goes up in smoke
If you'd maintained that smoke alarm, your children may have woke
Don't grab my arm and ask me if your family is alive
Don't make me tell you they're all dead, I want to tell you lies

I want to say she'll be OK, you didn't take her life
I hear you say you love her and you'd never hurt your wife
You thought you didn't drink too much, you thought that you could drive
I don't want to say how wrong you were, I want to tell you lies

You only left her for a moment, it happens all the time
How could she have fallen from there? You thought she couldn't climb
I want to say her neck's not broke, that she will be just fine
I don't want to say she's paralyzed, I want to tell you lies

I want to tell this teen his buddies didn't die in vain
Because he thought that it'd be cool to try to beat that train
I don't want to tell him this will haunt him all his life
I want to say that he'll forget, I want to tell him lies

You left the cabinet open and your daughter found the gun
Now you want me to undo the damage that's been done
You tell me she's your only child, you say she's only five
I don't want to say she wont see six, I want to tell you lies

He fell into the pool when you just went to grab the phone
It was only for a second that you left him there alone
If you let the damn phone ring perhaps your boy would be alive
But I don't want to tell you that, I want to tell you lies

The fact that you were speeding caused that car to overturn
And we couldn't get them out of there before the whole thing burned
Did they suffer? Yes, they suffered, as they slowly burned alive
But I don't want to say those words, I want to tell you lies

But I have to tell it like it is, until my shifts through
And then the real lies begin, when I come home to you,
You ask me how my day was, and I say it was just fine
I hope you understand, sometimes, I have to tell you lies

Dedicated to all the Deputy Sheriff's, Highway Patrol Officers,
Police Officers, Firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, Search and Rescue
volunteers and all civil servants who deal with the tragedies of
life and death. The saddest of all, being those
that involve children, and could have been prevented.

Wear your seat belts...
Keep poisons, flammables, fireworks, etc. out of reach of children...
Keep your smoke alarm in operating order, if you don't have one, get one...
Never, ever drive if you've been drinking...
Never leave your toddler unattended...
Teens, be responsible drivers, obey all traffic lights,
posted limits, warnings and signals at RR crossings...
Keep your guns locked out of reach, buy a trigger guard....
Protect our children, they are our future...
Am I preaching?
Am I nagging?
I guess I am just telling it like it is.........

Or I could just tell you lies.

No, not yet :) I'm studying to become one. I've been around cops all of my life, so I know how it goes.

Hmmm...not to criticize but when you use the handle "hippie_ladycop" and then a statement like, "I got this one from my Dad when I was just first getting into LE" it gives the impression that you ARE already a LEO. Studying to become one and knowing how it goes are not the same as actually being a LEO.

Ah, I can see how that can be confusing... sorry about the mix up. I've been working with Police for so many years now, somedays it feels like I am an Officer.

You're very close. My family is comprised of Military men and Police Officers... my dad was in the Military, my uncle was a state trooper.

I dont think it really matters if you are LE or not, nice poems

I've gotta go with Toeknee112. The title "I want to tell you lies" is actually right on the money for you. Deceptive handle and deceptive phrasing. If someone didn't step up and ask, it would seem self evident that you are a LEO.

Much of my family is in LE on the federal level with many other family members working on the state level and even my wife is a state LEO. Regardless, it doesn't make me an officer, doesn't make me "feel like an officer" and I wouldn't use false descriptives to lead poeple into believing I'm "in the club".

Worse is that you pretend that you're just getting the point of "Ah, I can see how that can be confusing" as if you weren't purposefully misrepresenting when you chose "ladycop" as your handle. I wonder which materials that you are studying describe posing as a police officer as being ok.

Sorry to be blunt, but it's wrong to try to step above those of us who are busting our butts actually going through the process by representing yourself as someone who has already endured the rigors and been sworn in and on the job. It's also disrespectful and insulting to assume a title you don't have for those who have actually achieved it .

Hopefully you'll lose your deceptive tendencies before you go through process, should you be fortunate enough to have the opprtunity.

Ease up. We have had Marine on here who was an aspiring Marine. He was up front about it. hippie_ladycop is up front about it to and I don't recall any post where she attempted to portray herself as a serving police officer. The nickname is statement of aspiration. Don't be so doctrinaire, it gives an unpleasant air and will only drive people away.

The Verified LEO tag tells the story, if it has to be told.

You don't recall any post where she attempted to portray herself as a serving police officer? Take another look at the first post in this thread. The nickname "ladycop" coupled with the statement "when I was just first getting into LE". Not an attempt? Not misleading? That was the first post of hers that I have read and I thought she was a PO. You're a veteran, but not everyone knows to look at the LEO verification statement.

Really, it doesn't affect my life so I'm over it. I was just making a point and unfortunately I am not always good at sugar coating.

I'm glad you're over it Jeter. Now, should I go and bounce every non-cop that is using a cop car avatar? No I don't think I will.

I just joined today and am reading through the postings for the first time. It's unfortunate that some feel the need to be heavy handed, or worded, in this case. "Hippie_ladycop" is obviously not her given name so back off a bit. Most people try to think of clever/cute handles without giving up their true identity. By reacting so negatively to something so trivial as a forum handle, if nothing else, makes a case for not giving out one's true info. Ease up, and if it's so serious for you, maybe you need some time off. I enjoyed the posting and I'm going to pass along the poem. It hits home and I believe that's the real point here.

The poem is good.

But alas, I too have a problem with people who in any way " ID " , use a nickname or otherwise make any statement that could lead someone to believe that they are in fact a police officer.

She didn't first get into LE because she never has been one.

" I have been working with the police for so many years that somedays it feel like I am an officer" Our vehicle maint guy has been working for us a for quite a few years but he doesn't feel like he is a cop. He even drives our fully marked cruisers to and fro without the light bar covered.

I won't belabor the point but I wanted to make my position known.

Depends how you read it. I read "getting into LE" as "being interested" as in "getting into the music".

I hope you don't mind Ladycop.......

The last 50 question Police Officer practice exam I took, I scored a perfect 100%. My 170 question test, I scored an 85%, which is 10% better than what I had made that last time I took it. The only thing that stands between me and my career, is my age. I do, however, have a chance to get into our city's Police Department through a Police Auxiliary Program if the city passes the idea for it.

I always think it's good to close a thread on a pleasant note if possible. The original poem in the thread was uplifting and I think a lot of people appreciated it. Unfortunately, as is the case a lot these days for some reason, it morphed off into something not related to the original post but worse, it got a wee bit personal. I'm closing the thread at this point as I think it is over. Thanks for making it positive zen. If you have a problem with my actions please feel free to contact another Moderator or the site owner.
