Having had something simular once, I can sympathize for the pain AG Ashcroft is going through. God speed my good man. Get better soon.

Is that the condition where you basically get a stone from deposits of something and have to pass it through your system? I've heard that is EXTREMELY painful.

Something like that. Although what he has is an infection. This can be deadly if not treated right away.

Taken from another message board. Obviously someone who doesn't like the guy, but does seem to make some interesting points. Either way, the guy is in pain and you have to feel for him.
The article I read said he had "gallstone pancreatitis".
Which is complete bs. He probably has acute pancreatitis, but short of performing both Endoscopic Biliary Drainage and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangeopancreatography (ERCP) there is no way they could diagnose something as rare yet vaguely named as "gallstone pancreatitis".
The truth is, 95 percent of acute pancreatitis cases are caused by overconsumption of alcohol. Not a single binge, but more like a lifetime of heavy alcohol use and/or abuse. Pancreatitis cases which are a result of gallbladder disease or malfunction might comprise about one-tenth of one percent of cases -- and it is rarely diagnosed and NEVER diagnosed within hours of the attack because the procedures needed to make the diagnosis can't be performed WHILE THE PANCREAS IS INFLAMED. Because of the dye studies and the invasiveness of Endoscopy itself, these procedures can't be performed until weeks have passed and the pancreas itself has had time to heal and settle down.
There is absolutely NO medical precedent of someone being admitted to a hospital with acute pancreatitis and having an accurate diagnosis of "gallstone pancreatitis" within 24 hours. There is no precedent of a doctor coming to that diagnostic conclusion even within ONE WEEK of a pancreatic attack. Ashcroft's diagnosis is a complete fabrication probably loosely based upon truth.
Pancreatitis is EXTREMELY painful. It is basically a pancreatic enzyme called amylase eating the pancreas from the inside out. This causes the inflammation and SEVERE, debilitating pain. The only therapy available is NPO (nothing by mouth) until the serum amylase levels in the blood drop to normal levels, intravenous fluid to keep blood sugar levels normal and constant, and LARGE, FREQUENT DOSES OF MEPERIDINE (Demerol). Unfortunately, Morphine Sulfate is contraindicated for abdominal pain, so we can't hope for the AG to get hooked on Smack.
Side note: About 4 percent of acute pancreatitis cases are viral in nature, about one half of one percent are caused by strictures in the Common Bile Duct or a hereditary defect known as Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, and two tenths of one percent are of Idiopathic (unknown) origin. Crisco Johnny and his "gallstone pancreatitis" is a rare case indeed.
I have zero sympathy for a man in pain that has done nothing but make the lives of others in pain nothing but a living nightmare. Obviously his alcohol comsumption has got the better of him and he should go on a crusade on the prohibition of alcohol.
This is just my opinion and I'm sure it's not the global truth of the matter but nevertheless it's my opinion and I have a right to it.

I would never wish any harm on the man. It is not like the guy murdered anyone. He is merely an overzealous civil servant.
I sympathize with the man. He is hurting and I know his pain (having gone through something simular).

I agree with Fuzz (for once). I really don't care what your opinion about the man is. He does have a family and this is pretty serious. If you are happy to see him in pain then I would ask that you have the common courtesy and decency to keep it to yourself.

Well, when you put it like that how can I not comply.....
If I can though I would like to bring up some things about other peoples suffering that Mr.Ashcroft has had a part in, if it's allright....
But then again, there are many other people who are suffering and that have fammilies. I take that back, there are many people here in Oregon that are dying and would like the decency of dying in peace and this is something that Ashcroft would like see denied to them.
My Mother suffered greatly and wanted to die with dignity. I sat at her bedside for ten days and watched her die in my face while Ashcroft denied her...
Sorry to have offended you guys but Ashcroft denied my Mother her right to die with dignity.
