Officer Jeremiah Goodson was shot and killed by a wanted murder suspect. While off-duty, Officer Goodson recognized the murder suspect sitting in a car at a Shell gas station and called police to assist him with an arrest. Another officer arrived and as they approached the car, the murderer opened fire and killed Goodson after striking him multiple times. No other persons were injured and the murderer is in custody.
Goodson had been employed with the Lumberton Police Department since June 14, 2006, according to James Moore, Human Resources director for the city of Lumberton. Goodson is married and his wife is pregnant with their second child, sources say.
