i bought a car off this girl she had a title signed over to her but she never titled it in her name i found that out when i went to license branch to title and register the car i also got a bill of sale signed by her as well. the license branch said it would be about 7-10 days before she got it back in the mail i would then come and pick it up at that time. it's been almost 2 months and she is no longer taking my phone calls and so now i'm stuck with a car i can't legally drive. my ? is did she break the law? and is there anything the police can do to help me? short of me taking her to small claims court.

bakfish, welcome to RP from the Florida Panhandle.

Since this isn't really an introduction but more of a question, I'm going to move it to the Ask-A-Cop section where it will live happier and get the attention you wish it to.

As for answering your question, you'll probably need to provide some more information such as what state this is happening in. 50 different states means 50 different (or more) chances that there are different laws in place to cover your type situation.

Without more information, this sounds CIVIL, unless you can prove the intent of FRAUD which in a situation you described sounds like a difficult thing to prove.
