So, I am in the military I was stationed in MacDill Fl (2010) and I bought a Nissan 240sx but it needed some fixing. I found this guy who offered to work on my car for an affordable price so I gave him $1500 cash in hand plus a value of $900 in miscellaneous parts . Then the Army sent me to Belgium for 2years so I told him to keep the car and keep working on it and that if he needed more money he could sell my rims which he did for $2500. We were keeping in touch at the beginning, then one day nothing!!! I tried calling, his phone got cut off, the email address wasn't working anymore (i kept getting that notification failure)...I couldn't do anything from Belgium!!! So around march this year (when I got back to the states) I found out his shop number...OUT OF BUSINESS!!! by digging and digging I finally got back in touch with him via email his excuse was he encountered financial problems and wasn't able to finish the work on my car....He also told me my engine got stolen!!! Since april, no news he is ignoring/avoiding me again I left my number, sending emails every weeks but nothing, I don't know if he reported my engine stolen or if he still has my car...my question is : What can I do to get my car and money back???? I am tired of chasing this guy!!!!

I don't think any police department will take a stolen on it, this is a civil matter between the two of you. Unfortunately, you left the car with him voluntarily, he didn't take it from you. The return of it is again, a civil situation. Sorry, I can understand your frustration.

Thanks for your service, btw. We appreciate it, but we just can't help you much on this.

This is likely a civil matter. If you can track the car down and it is still registered in your name, you can likely recover the car (that all depends on his side of the story).

Closing this one down as you have the exact same question open in the Ask-A-Cop forum.

In the future, please do not post the same question in multiple forums, it is considered extremely bad form here on RP.
