I just read in the paper that NY is passing a cyberbullying law that would require SCHOOLS to investigate cyberbullying that occurs off school property.
How come none of the PBA's have come out against legislation like this. To me, any kind of legislation that allows for civilian agencies to handle investigations in the "general public" takes jobs away from police officers and potential police officers.

Why would a cop want to investigate cyberbullying among juveniles?

I will admit that cyber bullying causes emotional issues and has been linked to suicides, however LE, at least myself have better and more important actual crimes against persons that we have to respond, prevent d invesigate. To be blunt, we have more important things to do and IMO if schools want to do it, let them. Its not going to affect our jobs and I also dont know how legal it would be for them to do.
It just means the school, when notified has to notify the PD to investigate. They won't be doing the actual investigations. And in NYC, the NYPD is already in every school.
