Hello,
I'm trying to get information to write about a decades-old unsolved murder of a 19-year-old girl in Massachusetts. The police department in the town where the body was found will not give me any information. I understand why, but I need to clarify some facts before writing about this case. Although over 100 people were originally interviewed, according to the local newspaper coverage, there were no suspects after two weeks and the case went cold nearly forty years ago. Today, the police department reports that the case is still open but not interested in re-interviewing anyone from the past. Since the state of Massachusetts has no cold case unit, and all key law enforcement involved in the case may no longer be alive, what are my options, if any?

Thank you for any help you can give me on how to proceed.

Not much. Open cases are not subject to public disclosure. The cases will remain open, but there is not much use in re-interviewing people unless new information is developed.
