i know someone that has evaded arrest, but was going WAY over the speed limit. the cops where right behind him the whole time while he was doing over 160 mph. isnt it against the law for a cop to go over 100 mph, because for one it endangers the driver and two everyone around him?

Why were you trying to evade police in the first place (let's not play dumb here, ok?)?

Isn't it against the law for you to go 160?

Isn't it your driving that endangers your life, not the officers?

Grow up and own up to your own....sorry I mean tell your friend to own up to their own responsibilities in life.

.....isnt it against the law for a cop to go over 100 mph.....

Why is that is a federal question? Did it happen on a US Forest Service road?

Yes, it's against the law. Probably a felony. Go down to the nearest police station and tell them what they did to you and how afraid you felt going 160mph while being chased with all those lights and sirens. They will want to find and punish the officer that tried to stop you so don't be afraid to go down there and turn him in. They'll want to take pictures of the vehicle you used to compare with the dashcam so bring that in, too. They will definitely punish the officer for this so don't let them do it to other people. Go down there and demand they find and punish him.

The fact he came here to ask a stupid question like that is indicative of all that.

Official answer, no. We can go as fast as we need to to catch the person.

Long answer, stop being stupid enough to run from the cops. That only adds more charges than what you would have originally been charged with. Also, please, please, never have kids. Enough of my taxes already go to pay for kids bred by idiots.

If we have our hats in the car (in preparation for subsequent enforcement action) we can then exceed the 100 mph limit.

When I was in college, one of my professors was a Sgt. at my department. Some girl in our Criminology class got hit by an unlicensed driver while he was fleeing from the police. She wanted to know from the Sgt./professor if the city would pay for the damage to her car since she had heard that our department wasn't allowed to pursue vehicles if they failed to stop. :rolleyes5:

We aren't allowed to exceed 30mph.

Nah, kidding. Reasonable and prudent, those are our guidelines. For a traffic violation I'm not pursuing, dependant on the committed crime I'll drive it til the wheels fall off. Pursuits are inherently dangerous but you are more likely to be killed by your own coffee table than you are by a vehicle pursuit.

We normally shoot out your tires if you go too fast.

Yes, you should describe things precisely that way when you go to court - you'll get the LEO in oh so much trouble and be let off scot-free. Let us know how it goes :)
