As far as searching the forum goes, is there anyway to search back multiple years? When I use the search function for say, my username as an author, it will not return results past maybe 1 year. Any suggestions?

Good question, I'd recommend sending a PM to one of the admin as they're more ingrained with the inner workings of the site's mechanics. Our main site admin are FBINA188 and realpolicecs, both of whom can reach out to Internet Brands (the company that owns RP) for further info.

Officer20, the search function here goes back for a limited time in order to conserve system resources.

One possibility for you is to search in RealPolice through Google. You would use the query "[TERMS] site:realpolice.net". For example,

"officer20 site:realpolice.net" yields 301 results for me. This search will, of course, not return results for any areas of the site that are invisible to Google for whatever reason (e.g., restricted areas), but it may at least be of help.

I noticed that on the posts that I was given "rep," I can still link to them through this website. Do the threads get stored differently when rep is given/received?

Go to Advanced Search, click the "Single Content Type" and in the second section it has a default of "1 year" and "Newer". Change "Newer" to "Older" and see if you get different results.

I can't search restricted forums but in regular forums, you had 3 posts from September 2010 that popped up.

As for searches going further back, MikeG's method works. It requires a few clicks, but it seems to do the job - I see a bunch of posts for you going back to March 2010.

The down and dirty is that there is no way to get results prior to 1 year ago from the restricted forums, I guess?

Officer20, as long as you currently have access to restricted forums, you should be able to see search results in them from yore using MikeG's method.

Sorry, I misspoke. Using MikeG's method, it gives about 2 years. Using the Google method worked for about 90% of my posts (non-restricted thread posts) going back to when I registered for the forum. But, as you pointed out, this only works for non-restricted forums. MikeG's method does not let me search back to 2006. I am asking if you guys would consider allowing searches further back from the restricted forums, since Googling does not work for those threads.

Officer20, I know the tech team is reluctant to make such changes to the back end architecture, since the current setup is optimized to conserve system resources. We'll keep your suggestion in mind. If others bring up a desire/need for it, we'll look into implementing such a change.
