You have to respect that level of commitment, though... thorough and well done!
And here I thought Greg was more of a Hello Squirrel kinda guy... :confused5: :biggrinjester:

It takes a real man to be secure enough to do this.

I think Pathos had a lot of input to your "security."
If he's said it once, he's said it a thousand times....
"Okay, but this is the LAST pink thing I'm putting in the GTO and only because you promised not to leave me over it."

The Goat's been a sensitive subject for me as of late. I went from getting paintless dent removal on the hood, to repainting the hood, to repainting the hood and front bumper due to stone chips, and now the passenger side front fender and door are getting painted too. :-\
The hood and bumper needed it due to a massive amount of stone chips. The fender and door not so much, but I can only hope now the paint matches...

First thing I always do when I get a new car is chip some paint off. Then I don't have to worry about it anymore.....

My son "helped me out" by swinging mom's car door into my front passenger side quarter panel. I will be forever grateful.

Heh, takes a load off, doesn't it?
Seriously, I try to keep my vehicles looking nice, but they're cars. I drive them on the street to get from one place to another. I'm not going to stress over them, there are a lot more important things in my life to worry about than a rock chip.....

This is true. Hopefully Greg isn't THAT obsessed that he's going to be climbing a clock tower shortly with a rifle over paint chips. :biggrin5:
And if the paint chips do send him over the edge, send me a message before hand. I have a few names and addresses for you. :biggrin5:

Ahh, but you can extend your philosophy and introduce others to a less stressful life by chipping the paint off of all the new cars you see.
Ferris Bueller said it best when they took and trash the vintage ferrari the other kids dad never drove out of fear of mileage and dents:
Cameron: Ferris, my father loves this car more than life itself.
Ferris: A man with priorities so far out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine automobile.
[Ferris caresses the car in admiration]
Cameron: No. No! Apparently, you don't understand!
Ferris: [ignoring Cameron] Wow.
Cameron: Ferris, he never drives it! He just rubs it with a diaper!
And we now know that Greg's first child's name will be Cameron.

Only those who take up two parking spaces so no one can park next to them.....
A Hello Kitty car interior? I thought only 20+ women were obsessed with Hello Kitty, now 20+ men are obsessed with it as well? What gives?

If the GOAT was faster it could be in the front throwing rocks on other cars rather than in the back of the pack eating dust and obviously rocks!

Yes , I am afraid that the GOAT has been the victim of a 6.1 hemi Challenger. They aren't paint chips as much as they are a " whipping ". :)

I had a work colleague that bought a brand new BMW M3 and thought it was the perfect car. Parked it in BFE in the employee parking lot just to away from everybody else. Only took one space though. About twice a week, I made it a point to park by beater pickup truck so close that he had to climb in through the passenger side. O only occasionally drove the pickup so he didn't know it was mine for quite a while.
It's also nice to have a beater when trying to merge into traffic. You only have to pretend you don;t see the brand new car that isn't letting you merge and they quickly get the idea that if you rally don't see them, their brand new car is going to get dinged up by a beat up old pickup. I turn on my turn signal and just move into the lane I want. They get out of the way. It's amazing how well it works.
It's also good in parking lots. I was statoionary in a parking lot and some backed into the front of my truck. Completely their fault. "No, ma'am I don't need your insurance info or anything like that. It's your fault and you can take care of your damage and my damage just adds character so I won't be making a claim against yoru insurance." They hate that for some reason.
It's so old that the paint comes off by itself due to wind. I don't even need rocks. It's so old I don't carry collision or comprehensive insurance. Just liability.

I unfortunately am pretty obsessive about my car. Over the years I realize it will get some wear and tear, but a hail storm last March dented the hood pretty good. The stone chips are worse than most cars seem to get as well. There were also other minor issues like paint flaking off of the plastic door handle, dents from parking lots where people have no consideration. A stone chip where the headlight meets the right front fender turned to rust. . It's mostly minor stuff but it drives me nuts. My old job required me to use a local interstate to get there and it was loaded with coal trucks that I swear dumped half their load of small rocks as they went down the road. One even hit my windshield and chipped it >:(. I was never a big fan of the factory paint coat. Australians definitely use a different type of paint.
As a bonus it came with the front plate bracket but front plates aren't required in PA so the body guy will remove that and plug the holes making it look the way it was meant to before some out of state dealer ruined it (it was a dealer trade).
All for about $1000 minus the $200 the insurance company gave me for paintless dent removal for the hail damage. Guess the new SUV I was going to get will have to wait.

Seems like a lot of money just to say "Hello, Kitty." Can't you get a bumper sticker or something?

I had a pickup like that. It was the last big 3 vehicle I owned, a 1989 Ford F-150. Beautiful truck when I bought it, but then in a few years the Detroit paint started peeling off and Ford wouldn't do anything about it. The problem apparently was the primer and it would have cost several grand to have it all removed and repainted so I had a cheapie Joe paint job done on it. That paint stayed on, but the pretty blue turned to purple.
I kept the truck for 16 years and never got more than 80K on it. After the first 4 years, I bought a car to drive and used it only to pull my boat. But it was the same way, I only carried liability on it and really didn't care about it. The more I drove it, the more repairs had to be done to it. It went through three a/c compressors, a water pump a U joint and an oil pump. I finally sold it for $700 in 2005 when I sold my boat and bought a Toyota P/U.

I stilll have it at 180k miles. Engine runs great. Only lights that work though are the brake lights. It's so hot and dry that the wire harnesses have cracked and shorted together so it would be a pain to figure out and pay for it to be fixed. A/C compressor is done again so it's a daylight and winter truck. Radio and heat fan have same electrical problem as lights. I probably drive it less than 100 miles a year now but it's handy to have a truck. I have anothe car that I drive every day that has 210k miles on it. Another liability only car. This is the car that I want to die but it won't quit. only thing that doesn't work is the radio volume doesn't always go the way you turn it. It has bad oil leak so I put oil in it when the light comes one. They freak out when I bring it in for an oil change and there's no oil in it to change. usually has a quart in it and I can't get the thing to quit.

I'm like you, I think I always need a truck around and that was the only reason I kept it.
When I decided to dump it, I sold the car I was driving and bought the Toyota Pre-Runner. It has 60K and has never had a wrench on it except for preventative maintenance. Nothing has ever gone wrong with it. I've bought it new in 2005 and have no plans at all to get rid of it. My wife's car is a 2004 Avalon with 85K miles on it and it still drives, sounds and feels like a new car. I expect to get well over 6 digits in miles on both.
If she and I were still working and commuting every day, I'd might be looking at getting something that got better mileage with gas prices going up and probably staying there. But as it is, that wouldn't be cost effective considering the amount of driving we do now. I long ago gave up the idea that I "needed" to be driving a newer car.

What brands are we dealing with here?
