    Police blinker/break lights...

    What's up?

I live in Lilburn, GA and I've noticed on a lot of the current Impala issued police cars, there are 2 lights in the rear window of the car that activate with the 2 rear break/blinker lights...are these available to the public? (I've seen them in an impala being driven by an elderly man) If they are, can I purchase them somewhere?

The ones in the window are called deck lights. The ones with the brake lights/ turn signal lights are called strobes. Chances are that you would not be able to use them on your vehicle legally, depending on your location.

I wouldnt recommend you put any type of flashing/strobe/blinking lights on your personal vehicle. Quick way to catch a felony charge.

In Michigan if they are strictly wired into your brake lights/turn signals they would be ok to use.

Its no different than a 3rd brake light. If they are not used in conjunction with those then they would be considered emergency lighting.

Yea thats correct...but how about location of buying them? Any known website that carries this, as well as the hand light on the front of the car next to the mirror, maybe even the black rims and bumper on the front?
Basically I'm trying to made my '01 Impala look just like an Undercover Cop car...without the illegal lights.
    Thanks for the help

And why do you think that we the Real Police want a help non LEO to equip his car to LOOK like a police car ? All you will end up doing is attracting the attention of the police in your area , and I can tell you from personal experience that we don't like someone who goes out of their way to do what you want to do. We show it by issuing citations for equip violations. Lots of them.

I seriously doubt that any Real Police Officer will help you..... ;)

Anyone who keeps a close eye on the state’s news wire has noticed that Georgia has recently experienced a rash of people who attempt to impersonate police officers by using multicolored lights, or strobe lights to pull over unsuspecting motorists. Reports have come in about people using these phony police lights to pull over cars in Cobb, Cherokee, Douglas, and Gwinnett counties.Persons violating this code would be guilty of a misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to one year imprisonment, and up to $10,000 in fines.

The point of being undercover in the first place (and by extension, driving an "Undercover Cop car") is to keep anyone from suspecting that you are a cop. If that is what you want to do... I suggest something like this. That way, you can play "undercover cop" to your heart's content, and no one will ever even know.

A good undercover police car is one that no one recognizes as a police car. What you need to do is go out and by yourself a nice Neon or Focus and then pretend you are under cover. No one will suspect a thing.
